Matthew Tkachuk: The villain the NHL needs

Nice piece by Adam Kennedy of The Hockey News:

Matthew Tkachuk is the villain we need right now. Not if you’re a Calgary Flames fan, of course. In that case, you’re probably incredibly stoked to have a teenager on your team who is already one of the best possession players in the NHL, puts up offense and plays with a mean, mean edge.

For the rest of the league? You’re gonna be buying your Hater-ade in Costco sizes.

Also, interesting note about Tkachuk's younger brother, Brady:

Another fun note? Keith Tkachuk has more than one elite son and Matthew’s younger brother, Brady, doesn’t sound too much different from his elder sibling.

“Brady is fun to watch,” said one scout. “He’s a Tkachuk. Super-competitive, big-time player down low and around the net. He’s gonna score a lot of greasy goals.”

Brady currently plays for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and is eligible for the NHL draft in 2018. I don’t know if it would be funnier for Calgary or Edmonton to draft him, but I love the possibilities.

This kid is the type of player every team wants and you win a SC with. So valuable in so many areas.

Flames and Oilers will both be too late of picks to draft Brady. Vancouver on the other hand... or even the yotes/vegas. Good chance Brady ends up on a divisional rival.

Yeah, Brady could be anything... he could even be a Bennett!

Brady isn't eligible until the 2018 draft. He missed the cutoff date for this draft by one single day. He'll have to full season at BU and be a good mature prospect by next season though, so teams should have a solid read by then.

Benning will hopefully be gone by then but I could totally see him reaching for Brady because he missed out on Matthew to try and get the fans back on his side.

I've been reading articles on him for the last 30 mins, and I think my favourite parts are when people in the comment sections try to compare him (in a bad way) to Brad Marchand.
