The way I see it is the Flames put themselves in a good position to get to the post season. Having 5 games left to clinch is far better than trying to get in with 1 or 2 games left. I hope they got their nerves out tonight.
Other than home ice the seeding doesn't really matter. Any team the flames face is going to be a tough opponent so lets just enjoy the ride!

I mean it looks like the slash hit his right hand and he was acting like it hit his left... If that's really what happened it's pretty embarassing

Not that I am encouraging this but the Flames don't need another win to make the playoffs...Kings wont get beyond 90 points

In order to ever become the best they'll have to beat the old best anyways.
Trying to line up favourable matches just to get deep isn't near as impressive.

Some people, namely those in associated with the Flames, aren't as sentimental as you are. Not every game he comes back to the dome to play in has to have Iginla tributes/special treatment. He was a great Flame and love the guy but they don't owe him anything beyond the status quo for opposing players at this point.
|
Not sure if your aware but our team sucked balls tonight. Nothing for fans to cheer for. Game was over who cares. Don't owe him anything but some poor fans actually paid good money to watch that game and sometimes you deserve some entertainment when you pay for some.

So basically we're 4-4 since the winning streak.

Brutal play - slowed down by unfocused emotions
Flames were awful - seemed to be weighed down by the Tkachuk-Doughty conflict. The Flames seemed disinterested with playing hockey, but we're wiling to back their rookie.
The more I watch Chiasson the more I wonder how he ever played on the first line, and watching him tonight, I was disappointed by his lack of push back and grit. A couple of bad penalties should put him in the press box.

Random thoughts from being at my first game of the season:
George Canyon has cut down on the twang significantly, he was tolerable.
You know it's time to update the uniforms when you see people wearing Langkow jerseys of the current style.
I'm glad the in arena out of town scoreboard was keeping everyone up to date on not only today's NBA games, but also yesterday's. However the biggest question mark is why they are showing updates on the NCAA CIT tournament and the NCAA CBI tournament. I'm sure everyone in the building was just dying for updates on the Coastal Carolina game, or the Texas A&M Corpus Christie vs Maryland Baltimore County.

Flames not prepared tonight for some reason. Why you wouldn't come out with a huge effort and avoid putting yourself in a precarious position is strange.
Soon five games becomes four becomes three and so on. California teams are not push overs any time of year.
Ya probability is in our favour but jeeze.

Unfortunate for Bennett. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Between previously playing with a massively struggling Brouwer & Versteeg at the time, to now playing with an unskilled Bouma & Chiasson.
Maybe time to switch Stajan & Bennett again. I don't know.

Props to Iggy for taking the focus off Tkachuk/Doughty and putting the Kings on his back in the process. If that was his last game in the Dome I can live with the loss

Props go to Iginla - he looks like he has a lot of game left. Kopitar was the better player for sure, but Iginla pushed that team tonight.
Sucks that the Flames lost, but they need to get better at playing this dirty game a bit more. Playoffs get that way, and the Flames coaching staff has to find a way to make the Flames play their game even when there is a lot of drama and greasy play. Oh, and please stick either Hamilton or Giordano on the 1st unit - that unit needs a shot from the point, or at least the threat of one. I am fine with keeping Brodie there, but they seem to really need a big shot on the point.
One thing I liked from this team - they never backed down. This team has come a LONG way from even last season I thought. Way more confidence in their physical play. They aren't the biggest team, but they have a lot of team toughness now. Really nice to see.
This loss was 50% on Iginla for rallying the Kings, and 50% on Tkachuk for rallying the Kings. I think Tkachuk did a great job in getting under their skin, but this should have been a throw-away game for the Kings. Just riding out the season, with very little to play for. Tkachuk really gave them a reason, and Iginla further pushed them.
It is not to say that Tkachuk played badly - that is the Tkachuk that I want in the playoffs for sure. This was just the wrong game. Had it been Anaheim, or SJ, then that would be a great time for him doing what he does so well.
One other thing I noticed - though I applaud the Flames for their pushback in the physicality department, they didn't skate as well. Bishop really did a good job at eliminating those dump-ins, but the Flames weren't using their speed to their advantage, and got a bit distracted from the physicality (in which they did well). VERY good practice for the playoffs, however. Rather they lose this game and learn from it then try and figure it out in the playoffs.
