This is great news. Engelland is a great guy to have in the room but more importantly on the ice. Such an underrated part of this team.

God I love that Engelland photo. That has got to be one of the best Flames pics ever.

If we could sign him and Stone to reasonable contracts I would love to keep them. There is a limit however, he's 35 and a bottom pairing guy. I want him back but for less than what he makes now and on, at most, a 2 year deal.
 Gio-Hamilton
 Brodie-Stone
 Kulak-Engelland
 Kylington-Andersson

Bartkowski has been a warrior but Treliving even admitted he was primarily brought in for the expansion draft. I don't mind him out there as a number 6 but honestly I'd rather develop a young guy in the 6 spot.

Hickey, Healey and Ollas Mattsson could make a push to get some games in also.

I don't think Culkin, Morisson or Wotherspoon will be retained (maybe Wotherspoon but I'm not sure we should) and Bartkowski is replacement level.

We need to sign two vets to round out our top 7 defenders and Stone and Engelland are my top choices when taking everything into consideration.

Like Treliving said let some young guys compliment the top 5 group.

I dunno, there is a big difference between getting a 1 year deal at arbitration's door and getting a multi year deal.

My bet is he's re-signed for 3 or 4 years @ about a $3.5 million cap hit.

Especially if he wants to be in Calgary for family reasons, and even more especially with Treliving sitting at the other end of the negotiating table.

			2 years at 2M per?
Engellend is solid but not sure I would want him for what the price would be. I see him as more of a 7 going forward.

I want the Flames to secure a number 4 (Stone, Alzner, trade) then look at getting a player or two from Stockton on the big club next year (Kulak and or Andersen). There is room for Engellend but he has to take a paycut. I could see him going to Vegas as he would be a valuable vet and lives there already

He was a good signing. A little on the expensive side, but he has been good for us, so no complaints. I hope they bring him back, but for a lower cost per season.

I love what Engelland brings, but unless he's under $1.75, we can't do it.I'm sure it's already been said a few times, but paying too much for 4th liners and 3rd pairing guys is how you get into trouble.

There are not many Engelland's around the NHL. How many bottom pairing guys can play top 4 minutes, be a force in front of the net, contribute lots of PK time, and fight any heavy weight in the league? Not many. Because he's such a good fighter he has a bit of a "goon, bottom pairing stigma." However, he's actually a pretty good skater with decent hands too. Remember that breakaway goal he scored this season? He's 6'2 214 lbs but can fight anyone. This shows his strength and stamina. A guy who's made it all the way from the ECHL has tons of determination. Even though he's 35 years old next week, I think he has some good years left.. I think he's earned a 3 x $3M contract and I would be happy if the Flames gave him that. He deserves that money way more than Brouwer does. I hope Vegas ends up with Brouwer so the Flames can sign Engelland.

If he's taking 2 years at $1.5M per I'm all in. He really should have been signed at $2-$2.5M in 2014, but we needed to hit the floor remember.
That being said... I'm not going to hit the roof at $2M either. I'd still happily take him back. He's a very solid guy who we're going to love in the post-season.

I know Stone is the priority, but I don't see this being one or the other. I'd bet Stone takes a 1-year at the same salary, and Engelland is taking less.

Oop, nvm. Confused with the cap on a traded player.

Depends on what happens in goal, but we are gaining $5,250,000	in Wideman. I'm at a total loss on what it'd take to retain Elliott, but I can't imagine he's going north of $7M (could he?!). So technically, we have $7,750,000 minus Elliotts new contract to play with there.

Between those two, I can't see Stone getting more than $4M he has now or Engelland getting a pay-raise. If anything, we're saving money on Engelland.

Besides Elliott, there's only Ferland to worry about really. Bennett isn't due for a huge raise, and neither is Lazar or Chiasson (if even returning).
