What an odd issue. Shouldn't all office kitchens have a fridge, coffee maker, and microwave from day 1?
Also, if your office doesn't have a microwave the response from HR should have been "No problem, I'll go buy a $60 one from Wal Mart right now".

I've never heard of a microwave being a fire hazard. Even hospitals have them. Pretty much every kitchen I've been in any office setting has one.

Does your office policy specifically ban Coleman camp stoves? Because I think I have a way to make the microwave ban seem downright silly.

I think they're referring to a microwave in someone's office or cubicle. I've worked in plenty of office buildings where a space heater or two in one area will blow the breaker, though. Also, people are dumb and leave their space heaters on after they leave all the time.

Buy one for $20, come in early the next day, plug it in in the kitchen (where microwaves are going to be in 6 weeks) and watch HR/microwave boss just try to take it away. Zero chance it happens.

I can't believe your workplace wouldn't just buy a cheap one until the designer ones come in.
What a lofty workplace you have where even the microwaves need to match.
Do you work for FIFA?

Everything has to match, from couches/chairs to cubicles/offices to walls. Spent a tonne of money.

1. Go to the Co-op Market upstairs section
2. Go to a convenience store. Buy something and use their microwave
3. Eat your food cold (I know, it's an Asian thing not to)
4. Buy a thermos (really good for soups and rice and things, will stay hot for 24 hours)
5. Wear a maid uniform, sneak into a hotel, and use the microwaves in the suites
6. Buy military rations and use their flameless exothermic ration heater
Is this a new building or a snobby office designer or something? Not working for the gov't anymore?

7. Buy a DC to AC inverter for your car, put microwave in car, drive to work, charge co-workers $3/minute to heat up food, Profit.

My wife does office/hospitality procurement and if microwaves were to be installed anytime after move in day there sure as #*%@ would be temporary microwaves in the meantime. Whether it's a 2 man office, or a super major E&P company.

That's a stupid way to do things - out of spite, I would nuke some fish on the first day your matching one arrives, to break it in.

Or start an accidental popcorn fire. That smell never goes away.
