The fact that the Flames have held their own against all three of the elite teams in the NHL (Pit, Wsh, and CBJ) and did not look out of place is an encouraging sign. They will be able to beat inferior opponents.

The Caps third goal on the PP in the dying minutes of the second was tough. Engelland's pass on the Brouwer goal was epic and if Gio had beaten Holtby on his partial break then it's a completely different game. But overall I think the team sorely missed the elements that Ferland and Tkachuk bring and were overwhelmed for much of the game.

I can't believe the Blues traded Oshie for Brouwer.

Didn't the Blues make it to the WCF with brouwer? The caps bowed out in the 2nd round vs pitts with Oshie.

Sure Brouwer has been his normal self in rg. Season but he had very timely goals that helped St.Louis in the playoffd to propel them into the WCF. The Caps wish theu got to any kind of final period.

Oshie is barely younger than Brouwer. Even in retrospect I still do that teade if I were the Blues any day. Almost got them to a SCf and was good player on a Stanley cup winning team.

This is the only year he may not reach 30 to 45 points in his nhl career.

He usually reaches 20 or so goals and 12 to 19 assists.. Troy brouwer is under performing because Calgary is not on the same level as the hawks , past blues or the Caps. They are closing in but not close to those teams in depth.

Brouwer is not even close to Oshies level career wise. Lets not kid ourselves.

The Caps have had a lot of problems 'bring it' to the playoffs in the past.

They were something above what we have been playing these past few weeks. A great team to watch.

If they do manage to bring it to the playoffs, they are a very good shout for the Cup.

So bloody close.
And Backs hit the cross bar on the shorthanded breakaway...Oh well, the Caps are really good when they can play Shattenkirk on the 3rd pairing.

The Blues beat the Blackhawks off of .930 goaltending from Elliott, and beat a Stars team that couldn't defend or get a save worth a damn. They proceeded to lose to the cup runners up/

The Capitals lost the eventual Cup Champs in what should probably have been the ECF matchup.

Context.

And Oshie put up six goals and four assists in ten playoff games for the Caps last year. I don't think Washington regrets that trade.

Looked like a classic pick...I have been hit just like that and without a chance to brace myself, resulting in Costochondritis.

Turning point in this game was the huge save on a shorthanded attempt. Not a bad shot but he had plenty of time to roof it

We also had minor penalties by Gio, Dougie, and Stone. Somebody has to pick up those extra minutes.

Agreed. Totally different game if that goes in IMO.

I mean I know we forget what losses feel like and believe out team can win every game, but if you're going to lose, Washington is an alright place to do so.

I thought they played pretty good in stretches and had nice push back at certain pivotal points of the game.

Washingtons PP is on fire, and that's what really burned us.

Our combined record against those teams is 3-3 this season. I'd call that more than "an encouraging sign" or "holding our own". We can beat elite teams.

Add Minny, Chicago, San Jose and the Rangers to the tally with Pittsburgh, Columbus and Washington:

9-8-0 total

In the section I was in the Caps fans were very complimentary of the Flames. They were continually stating how Calgary was a good young team on the rise that looked like one of the best Western Conference teams to play the Caps this year. This on the heels of playing the Wild recently. A couple fans even acknowledged the team would be even more difficult to play against with Tkachuk in the lineup.

Multiple remarks about wanting to see the Flames again this year (SC Finals).

I don't know how much time he had. Frolik had the Caps dman sliding by and clipping him causing him to lose his balance. Trying not to step on the dman probably distracted him long enough to really change the angle and time he had to fire the puck.

Turning point was the 3rd goal right before the end of the 2nd period. couple chances to get one clear and they couldn't do it. Mind set being down 1 or 2 heading into the third is very different.
