Ah that's true, I've actually liked him in some games but he's a player you have to use sparingly and shelter. Gets just destroyed along the boards. Really no harm in giving Rasmus a game and would be odd not to considering he's a regular recall.

Wilson ran into him in the high slot.

No, checked a little awkwardly in the slot while he wasn't paying attention.

No limb twisting or anything though so shouldn't be too concerned.

Bennett looked pretty decent with the two M's, but you can tell the Flames were missing Tkachuk's spark - he is the straw that stirs the drink!

I really dislike that stupid over the glass rule. If not for that call, the Flames probably tie it and at least get out the game with a point. Having said that though, our PK was pretty dreadful tonight, so you could just as easily point the finger at that.

Wouldn't say that. If it wasn't for Elliot this would have been a blow out.

That said they're missing Ferland and Tkachuk so that might have made a bit of a difference. All said and done that game looked like a playoff contender playing a Stanley cup contender. Really wish we could've seen them with 19 and 79 to get a proper measuring stick.

Dang! I thought the game was tomorrow and totally missed it. Probably jinx'd the Flames.

Really is, Bennett was good but no one on this team besides Johnny can match Tkachuk's passing ability. But Bennett deserves to play with better players, I thought him and Lazar looked decent and I know Lazar had a bad game but still would like to see that again. Brouwer-Bennett-Versteeg just doesn't work

Really? Blowout? Elliott made the saves he needed to, it wasn't as lopsided as you're making it out to be. Especially considering Holtby was real good himself.

you can't tell that much but what hurt us here is what usually hurts us (even when we win): our depth forwards and d. with a full roster they can usually execute a little better, but tonight they were exposed against an elite team in the league.

i really don't see what bartkowski (since he got on the roster) brings other than turnovers and fumbled plays. i'd really like to see andersson get a shot.
Getting Bart some time out, and Ferland, Tkachuk back in should help with that. Some depth weakness was exposed but all the lines were essentially shifted, Lazar and Hamilton hadn't played in ages, and Chiasson isn't good on the top line for more than the odd game. It affects chemistry and their ability to execute the plays those lines would before because of that familiarity. Our usual roster depth is fine, if not decent. Our depth that is definitely lacking is in our 13/14th forwards and 6/7th dmen. When they have to all draw in, the team usually suffers a bit because of it.

Sure makes you miss when they could call on Byron whenever they needed.

I would try Rasmus/Wideman in the #6 spot next game. Hopefully Ferland is back so Chiasson can be shuffled down and Lazar comes out again.

Tough game.

Good first, overall. Bad second, but credit the Caps, they were flying and forcing some mistakes. D was sloppy overall. Late period goal was a killer. Pretty good pushback in the third. Bad penalty killed any momentum, bad luck with Stajan's stick got the PK out of sorts and Ovechkin with the dagger. A few key missed opportunities along the way that could have made it a different game - Frolik, Backlund and Gio chances stand out. Just not our night.

I thought the Flames were physically outmatched throughout most of the game.

If either Backlund or Frolik scores in the second things might have turned out differently. And hard to give up a goal in the last minute of a period.

No shame in losing, WSH is a great team in goal, on defence and can roll four forward lines. And of course no. 8.

Flames have played the two likely Cup finalists from the East in a week and for the most part matched up quite well. Great experience down the stretch.

Now beat the Preds on Thursday.

Caps are the NHL's top team at the moment, and playing them at home is never easy. Going in without two of your top 6 forwards? Even a more daunting task.

Flames played well, and this game could have gone the other way. It was a close game. Backlund had that breakaway and almost went in, and Holtby made a godly save on Frolik. No shame in the loss tonight, at all. Flames weren't going to finish off the season on a perfect run. Have to save those wins for the games against Anaheim and SJ

Entertaining game nonetheless. I have no complaints.

We've also seen the Flames play a lot more physical too. And the two guys missing aren't exactly slouches in that department.

Really? I thought he looked worse at wing than he has at center lately. At least at center he was playing a good defensive game, and his offensive pressure was starting to come around.

That was a clinic by the Caps tonight. The Flames didn't play their best, ESPECIALLY in the 2nd period, but even if the Flames had their game of the year I doubt they win that one.

That save by Holtby on Frolik's shorthanded chance was pretty incredible.

Full credit to the Caps. On to Nashville where there's a much more beatable opponent to play in a couple days. Hopefully Ferland is back because plays are dying on Chiasson's stick yet again.

So since there isn't a single comment on Gaudreau bent over limping to the bench at the end there....I'm assuming he's ok? I missed a chunk at the end.

From the replay, I could see Wilson had Johnny at his peripheral. Could be an interference but no call.
