ugg hopefully just maintenance for Ferland and Versteeg, but Chiasson on the Monahan line makes me think it is something serious for Ferland

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Ferland and Versteeg the only players missing as the #Flames get morning skate underway today.

Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
Freddie Hamilton is working in Kris Versteeg's spot. Chiasson is working with Gaudreau/Monahan. No sign of Ferland at practice.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Lazar with Bennett and Bouma which might suggest his debut tonight, too. Updates from coach shortly. #Flames

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames lines this morning look like:

Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Gaudreau-Monahan-Chiasson
F. Hamilton-Stajan-Brouwer
Lazar-Bennett-Bouma

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames D pairings look the same:

Giordano-Hamilton
Brodie-Stone
Bartkowski-Engelland

Wideman and Andersson the extras.

Lazar seems like a logical choice to fill in the top spot if Ferland is out IMO. Why split up the 4th line with how they've been rolling?? Lazar's skill set/style has similarities to Ferly as well. Hopefully Ferland is good to go though, big reason we beat the kings last time.

Why not put Lazar with Monahan and Gaudreau.. he will be so hyped up so why not use that extta energy for one game.

Although, I am curious to see how Lazar and Bennett do.

They are going to ease Lazar in. They won't put him in a top 6 role off the bat in his first game as a Flame unless injuries force them to.

I understand that but I would try Lazar over Chiasson. Why not give the new guy a chance to come in fresh and with a lot to prove. I am just looking at it from a psychological point of view.

If you are looking at it from the psychological point of view, how about you take into account everything that has been said about Lazar's confidence. Everyone in the Flames organization says that Lazar's confidence needs to be rebuilt.

Throw him onto that line and you are gambling that he will succeed. If he does great. If he doesn't you risk, setting him back further.

Give him easy attainable goals. You can even rotate him on with Monahan ffor a few shifts if he starts showing signs.

Yeah, that makes sense and I respect your opinion on that. Hopefully he does show some signs and proves to become a very solid player for the team.

So we should just hand a guy who has 1 assist in 33 games, hasn't played in 3 weeks first line duty - 18 minutes tonight?

How do you think that would go in the dressing room? I'd say not very well.

Hopefully his adrenaline helps him make an impact.

Excited for him to make an impact but also hope he realizes it may just be for 1 game so someone else can get healthy.

Regardless let's BBQ some kings hopes and send them towards golf plans sooner.

To be fair, he isn't neccesarily replacing someone but rather filling in for an injury. Chiasson has had his opportunities and is doing well on the fourth line.

Also, the team left him off the roster throughout the win streak.. I really hope the players are not that fragile, and they do whats best for the team (playing Lazar or not).

To be fair, though, it's a bit of a throw away phrase. If Iginla plays next year, then this would *still* be "one of the last". The only meaningful games would be ones the might actually be the last.

Chiasson has played alright with 2g 1a in his last four games. You cannot mess with the chemistry on the 3M line, or throw Lazar to the wolves.

The only options left are Chiasson, Brouwer and Versteeg (who didn't skate either).

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
As per Glen Gulutzan, Micheal Ferland (illness) will be a game-time decision. If he can't play, Curtis Lazar will slot into the lineup.

Versteeg will play:

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Gulutzan: Ferland ill, so he's a game time decision. Maintenance for Versteeg. #Flames

Illness is very likely better than injury, so that's good I guess. Hopefully just a 24 hour thing.
