I don't remember that being the case apart from a couple people with extreme views which always is the case.
Neither here nor there I suppose, just seems like an odd reaction.

Anyways, whatever. No biggie. I get that people would have doubts, just not that over the top on a 1 year deal.

David Clarkson possibly calling it quits after this season is over. He is looking to move on and will be taking over as a varsity coach for Upper Arlington High School.

Wait, Paul Byron still plays in the NHL? And has 38 points? Wow.

He would be walking away from 15 million if that were true. Although retiring and leaving that money on the table would be doing the Blue Jackets a solid since he has a NMC.

I doubt Clarkson is officially retiring. He will just be on LTIR for the rest of his contract. Marc Savard did something similar, and started coaching a minor hockey team.

I may have worded it wrong, but here it is.
Quote:
When the Columbus Blue Jackets traded Nathan Horton to the Toronto Maple Leafs they thought they were getting a pretty sweet deal. After all getting rid of Horton, a player who was being paid but could not play, and getting David Clarkson, a player with a bad contract but who would actually play night in and night out, was a pretty good deal.
Fast forward a little and Clarkson much like Horton was sidelined by a debilitating back injury, and now it seems like he may have given up on a possible return to the National Hockey League as a result.
A breaking news report from Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch has revealed that Clarkson is looking to move on and will be taking over as a varsity coach for Upper Arlington High School. Clarkson has already been working at the school as a volunteer, and now he will be taking the next step and officially joining their staff pending approval from the school.
Portzline would not state that Clarkson's career was officially over, but did admit his "career is likely over due to chronic back injury."

Friedman says Noah Hanifin could be had if an impact forward is going the other way:
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/3...od-news-green/
Quote:
18. One name to watch this off-season: Carolina’s Noah Hanifin. He played at least 20 minutes in 10 of the Hurricanes’ last 11 games (and came in at 19:58 in the other). I think Carolina would consider moving him if — and only if — an impact offensive forward was coming to Raleigh. So, don’t come at them with weak sauce. They are one of the few teams that could even consider this, because they have blue-line depth. But, Hanifin has a long, prosperous career ahead of him, and they will not trade him just for the sake of it.

Shades of the Seth Jones deal. Gotta be careful.
Johansen is a good player, plays an important position, plus the Preds have blueline depth, but they gave up a 22 year old, 6'4 215lb great skating, right shooting #1 stud Dman in that deal.
I think in the long run the Preds might end up regretting that deal, and so would Carolina.

I would rather have Jones as he hasn't peaked yet and looks to be improving annually. Johansen is a good not great player but I understand why the Jackets made the deal as it was more for now than the future.
