Don't be so arrogant as to presume you speak for everyone.
Smyth was as much a greasy player as Tomas Holmstrom was. Both guys were allowed to blatantly cheat for years and I don't have a great deal of respect for either as a result.
Smyth cheated as much as every player tries to. if he got away with more, than he was obviously better at it than most players.
If he was a flame you'd likely be singing his praises and calling anyone who didn't like the way he played jealous and a whinger. just like the comments from here directed towards other teams fans when they complain about Tkachuk.
amazing how people have or don't have respect for a player because of the team they played for, or some other perceived slight.

Another idiot who thinks he is capable of thinking for others.
I realize that for people like you, the only way you will ever succeed in a debate is to assign opinions to others because it makes it easier for you. But the truth is, it only makes you look like a moron.

like you add anything to a debate by calling people idiots and morons.
hope the name calling makes you feel really cool and special, if nothing else.
so has there been any comment from the league or hockey alberta?

Cool story bro time, but I'll never forget autograph hunting at the summer selection camp at the Father David Bauer ahead of the '02 Salt Lake Olympics and of all the stars that were there only four came out to sign autographs for the fans--Gretzky, Lemieux, Iginla and Smyth. Pretty classy on those guys.
No doubt about it. You can see him tracking Smith before he cut to the net. He knew Smith couldn't see him coming and was going to lay him out.
I actually disagree with you on the bolded. Watch it in slow-motion. He tracked Smith for a bit, yes, but as far as during the play, it looks to me he was gassed and was literally going to do (and did) nothing.
Watch him, he goes completely out of his way to not even touch the player joining the play as they cross the blue line. Then he makes one half of one stride the entire time right up until he literally looks at the net and watches the goal go in.
He wasn't trying to hit Smith or block the shot or do anything...until AFTER the goal. Only then does he suddenly activate and take a sharp turn (he slams on the binders enough to throw snow) toward the obviously not watching Smith and torpedo him in the head.
Ref was in perfect position and called it a match penalty so that should be a guaranteed suspension. The only question is how long.

Speak for yourself Oilerboy. "Perceived slight" LOL.
Smyth was a dirty rat player. I watched his entire career. I have zero respect for him because of the way he played the game. Just like I have no respect for Kesler, Cooke, Doan, Burrows, Torres among other cheap shot, sneaky rat bastages.
Deal with it. Or don't. I don't care.

Can you point out a single cheap shot that Smyth had in this career. He made a name by being one of the best players at the top of the crease and getting in the face of the goaltenders.
He didn't dive, he played in the toughest areas of the ice, he played for the love of the game, his country, and his team. What makes him similar to any of those players other than which team he played for and which team you cheer for.

Yeah, other than that slashing video posted, which was more embarrassing than anything else, I wouldn't characterize Smyth as dirty. A cheater, yes, but not dirty.

Can you at least limit your garbage posts to another thread?

I'm ok. You're the only one getting really upset without being able to back up what you're saying. Even resolute i was ok with the name calling as he at least had a reason for it. Can't see the reasoning behind your ranting.

Here are a few I found quickly. Smyth always tried to make things look like they were an accident. Except it was easy to tell things weren't just accidents when he kept doing them over and over. Dirty sneaky rat boy.
Smyth elbows Richardson.
Smyth elbows Kunitz.
Smyth knees Kovalev.
Smyth and his hit the shaft of the goalie stick patented move.
Smyth slashing and slashing. Note Heatley come in and cross check Smyth to make him stop the embarassment.
Smyth was far from the darling that some of you are trying to portray him as. Ask Miikka Kiprusoff what he thinks of Ryan Smyth and his cheap tactics.

Those are the best examples you can come up with - interference, an elbow, a sort of knee, and goaltender interference? For a player with a 19 year NHL career that's all you could come up with. I was truly hoping for something of substance that I had forgotten. At least Burrows bit a guy.
You're embarrassing yourself more than usual.
But you are right, he wasn't a darling, he was a semi-skilled player who made the most out of every bit of skill he had by standing in the hardest spot in the rink, every single game. He was the ultimate team player who put his body on the line every single game to win. He was a player that every single fan would want on their team on their top powerplay unit, standing in front of the next, willing to get hit with a puck travelling near 100 mph to potentially get a goal.

Smyth in his prime was one of the best ever at screening goalies and scoring from high traffic difficult areas. Surprisingly durable as a player who played in the tough areas.
He'd have done very well as a Flame.

CINB managed to find some clips of things that most every player is bound to do over a career that spans that length of time.
still don't see anything that brings him up to cook and torres status.
doesn't matter, really. he's wrong and everyone else is right.
