Exactly. Still lots of hockey to play.

Thanks for coming out of woodwork to again reaffirm to us that you're not worried about a BoA playoffs. You've convinced me.
I hope you're not worried about the Sharks either.

Okay now, let's not go full Spector in here. As great as that would be, Oilers like the Flames also are fully in control of their destiny with a decent gap on 9th and probably not enough games left to close it.

Just look at what has happened so far in the sports world in 2017....
Football:Falcons up by 25 and lost the Super Bowl.
Soccer:UEFA : PSG up 4 nil against Barcelona and lose 6-5!
NHL: If one team can duplicate what the Falcons and PSG have done this year (choke), I would bet on the E=NG!

[QUOTE=the2bears;6165347]Honestly, though, would you not make the bet on a team in the Flames' position over and over again? If you could bet on said team each year you'd make a very nice profit.[/QUOTE

Couple of serious questions for you.
1.) Do you think that Flames team that was swept by your team were playing at even 50% of their true potential? Obviously a 14-2-1 stretch isn't sustainable over a full season but doesn't their current level of play make you nervous?
2.) Are you concerned about fatigue? McDavid played 26+ minutes against Pittsburgh, practically unheard of for a forward. McLellan is really over-playing him since there's very little secondary scoring. Same with Talbot, when all is said and done, he'll likely have started 70+ games. We've all personally seen the fatigue a goaltender (Kipper) gets with that much workload.

Can anyone dig up records of starting goalies in the playoffs after playing 70+ games in the regular season in recent years? Particularly those that had success in winning rounds. I'm curious. Pretty sure there's only a handful as most playoff teams dress their backup for more than 12 games.
The only year Kipper was able to get the Flames past the first round was when he played a partial season (04). He had some real off games in each first round series where he played 70+ going in. My suspicion is that many games do affect goaltenders when the games get ramped up to another level and the opposition is putting it all out there.

Why don't you just go back the past 10 years and look at who the starting goalies were on those teams and at how many games each one played?
The data is readily available, you just need to spend some time compiling it.

Quoted for Truth.
The big difference is we had to listen to a yearly influx of Oiler fan trolls come in and gloat about success being right around the corner followed by monumental collapses into epic failure - every year for a decade.
Oiler fans have absolutely no reason to be smug / boastful about anything after spending the last ten years being one of the most poorly run and inept franchises in pro sports.
The ratio of smug, brash fans in light of the aforementioned failure is mind boggling.

I laugh when fans of the Oilers state that teams play so much harder against Edmonton, because they didn't get the win in Calgary the night before. Well, if Edmonton didn't get so many teams on the 2nd night of a back to back, this wouldn't happen. I'm sure Calgary would gladly take the 19 times the Oilers were rested and played a tired team that played the night before.

Thats the hilarious part for me.
This is their best season in 10 years. They had to do with an insanely hot goalie, a wunderkind, and a quarter of their schedule against teams on a back-to-back.
The stars have aligned for them, and its not like they're on their way to cup or anything, but for them? This is as good as it gets.

My point was they're overwhelming favourites in this case, which we seem to agree on. So speaking with some certainty on the outcome is warranted.

Then you should have said that. Being a favorite, even a heavy favorite and being a certainty are far from the same.

You're the one who originally brought up "certainty". I merely asked if you would make the same bet multiple times on the heavy favourite.

Yes I initially brought up certainty and favorites not being the same thing. No idea why you decided to quote my post and try to start an argument.
And yeah betting big money on heavy favorites in sports in order to earn a very small return is a very foolish bet IMO. Buy bonds instead.
