What do you propose instead, we dress 5 D?

Treliving used an emergency recall for Andersson, so he isn't allowed to play unless Dougie and Stone are both out tonight. Even then, Wideman has to play.

Gulutzan clearly is perfectly fine not playing Wideman at this point. Criticizing him for having no choice in the matter is ridiculous.

What? Are you aware of the injuries that happened against Montreal? I don't understand this comment...

I feel that if Elliott and the rest of the team keep playing the way they have, that slotting in Dennis and Rasmus won't hurt the flames. Both D will have something to prove so should be a good game.
 Go Flames Go.

Hellebuyck will stand tall for the first little while, especially since he was terrible last game - but he's usually prone to giving up a Hiller goal here and there. If the Flames pile on early and don't look back, we could be looking at 4-0 after two.

I have a feeling Johnny keeps rolling and has another big game, even potting a couple goals.

I get that lots of people agree that Wideman will have lots to prove tonight, but I don't think effort is the problem.
People too often confuse lack of execution with lack of effort. Sometimes players aren't good enough anymore and sometimes players have bad streaks. Doesn't mean they aren't trying

When you watch the pre-game interviews on Flames TV, in the one where Kristen Hallet was interviewing Johnny he had this smile he couldn't contain the whole interview. Clearly he is feeling it right now and I would expect another strong performance tonight from the line of Johnny-Mony-Ferly.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing. No doubt Wideman is going to be amped. He'll still be the slowest skater on the ice though.

It's not Wideman's lack of speed I am most concerned about, it is about eliminating those defensive end brain farts!

Wideman as a #6 in the lineup shouldn't be a life or death situation.

He'd actually been demoted to 3rd pairing right before the winning streak. Engelland was playing with Brodie. Wideman played with Kulak (remember that ridiculous gaffe they combined on). Actually, it worked ok, but not as good as when Stone came in and they could move Engelland back down where he really belongs.

I trust Engelland in a one or two game situation to play a bigger role, though. I also trust Wideman to play well with Bart. Where I get nervous is with Bart on the second pairing and Wideman and a rookie on the bottom.

This is my concern also. I'd rather have Andersson play than Wideman. Wideman has fully earned the criticism he gets. He doesn't do enough offensively to make up for his neverending string of defensive gaffes costing us goals at bad times. The Jets stink right now but Wideman makes us worse, I'd rather Andersson or Wotherspoon play. I'm worried about tonight's game, we have a chance to move up to second place but Wideman can easily ruin it, we've seen it time and again. He just sucks, period.

Like everything on CP the Wideman issue is overblown.
I thought he was playing too many minutes and made way too many mistakes as well, but this is short term. He can still make some great offensive plays, he just needs to minimize the errors.

We also have to give huge credit to Bartkowski and Stone; for #4-6 D men they have been exactly what you want plus way more. They basically make Wideman look like a plug even though he's "serviceable". Most teams have #5 and #6 D who make a fair number of mistakes a game.
