It would come as no surprise to me if the Flames just boil over in a game down the stretch and we see a game with a few line brawls.

My bet is it will be against Anaheim or Minnesota

He obviously did dive but it wasn't the most egregious dive. Most every NHL player does dive or go down a bit easy in order to try and get the call to put their team on the powerplay. Gaudreau has a tendency to whine to the officials (right or not) and that puts him diving on their radar so he isn't given the benefit of the doubt as often as other players.

They do, but this is a chicken and egg problem. Johnny started complaining because the referees decided to hose the Flames for Wideman. Except that is the kind of feedback loop that could only hurt Johnny.

As far as the fine goes, given the referee on Sunday called the Islanders penalty a hold, his perspective would definitely be that Gaudreau embellished. Looks like the league agreed. Hopefully it does change his behaviour on this front. He's not going to get away with it the way McDavid does, so no sense continuing to behave that way.

Was there ever a reverse angle of that play? I seem to recall Johnny arguing he got high-sticked in the face (hence falling to the ice).

Johnny definitely does his fair share of selling.

Not sure I agree about this one though. The problem is they called Ho-Sang for holding but Johnny actually gets Ho-Sang's stick in his mouth. They showed it clear as day on the Jumbotron when it happened, but both broadcasts only have the one angle of it.

I can't see an angle that I can even extrapolate Ho-Sang's stick hitting him in the mouth. By the time it happens, Johnny has Ho-Sang's stick in his hand, so if he did get hit by it, he likely high-sticked himself.

Agreed, and this is a huge problem in soccer as well.

The referees have effectively made it so that you are not going to get the call unless you sell it.

You can be strong and stay on your feet but then you'll lose the puck and not get the call, but get fined later.

But this is the environment that the Refs and the League created.

Johnny should just play keep-the-puck rather than trying to sell his dives. He's way more entertaining rather than do that kind of crap. Smaller skilled players like Mullen gets his reputation and respect by playing a solid and honest brand of skilled hockey.

If he wants to entertain by acting on the ice, he should go the way of Adam F. Goldberg - just saying...LOL But, I can't blame him for being good lately.

I approve of the public shaming of diving, I just wish it was more consistently enforced.

I think Connor is doing a fine job of it. He's also perfected the head snapping back and the dive into the boards.

I honestly think that the NHL needs to realize the talent Gaudreau has and exploit it.

Not give bull#### fines.

Dive and win.....2 thousand dollars for every called hack on JG.

Proceeds go to minor hockey

They'll make no money but hey.......every thing is awesome.

Agreed. The homer glasses are on in full force here. He dives. He whines to the refs. He does it regularly. We all know it. No one should be at all surprised this is the result. Yes it sucks he gets hacked and slashed every game. But this is the reality of the NHL in 2017. Calls don't always go your way, and reputations are a very real thing.

Just because he is a Flame and our star player does not absolve him of what he sometimes does (ie. dive). He needs to stop the whining and stop the diving. The last thing I want is our team having a reputation for being a bunch of Canuck-like divers. I love him as a player. But this is the worst thing about him lMO

Yup, I saw it too, this a complete joke. Not saying Johnny is above embellishment but the league clearly screwed up here.

All players are bad for it in my opinion. They all do the head snap in some fashion, some worse than others *cough* McWhiner *cough*. He just needs to shut up and quit complaining to the refs all the time.

Pretty embarrassing, hopefully he dials it back. Flop vs the isles looked pretty bad to me. Kinda glad he was fined tbh.

It happens all over. The fact that, if my numbers are correct, only 5 players are at the second stage that Gaudreau just hit (off the top of my head Muzzin, Yandle, Ekman-Larson, and Kuznetsov) shows the NHL has been really selective.

Mcdiver got a diving penalty in the second game against the Flames (Oct 14) and he sure as hell has had some gems since so it is a wonder how he hasn't joined the club.

The NHL clearly has no self-awareness. Or perhaps more accurately, doesn't give a crap about it's own integrity.

Yes.

Except for one small item...

All kinds of people across the league dive, and all kinds whine to the refs.

No one is arguing that Johnny isn't guilty of those things.

The frustration comes from the fact that the refs seem to single him out in a very unfair and unbalanced way.

If he were a rare diver/whiner I could understand the message the refs were trying to send. But what we have is an epidemic problem, but only one guy who is being singled out by the refs.

THAT'S the problem people have.
