I was big into it as a kid, I brought my board everywhere. Took a break, went through a big growth spurt, and I could never get comfortable skating again. I still have a couple boards in the basement I picked up in high school but I can't see myself ever getting back into it

I separated my shoulder exactly one year ago next Thursday. I did it playing hockey. They say I was standing by the net, the puck popped out by my feet and then I looked like Walt Disney's Goofy and I fell landing shoulder first. It was minor but I still feel the effects of it today, it isn't completely healed yet and I've been receiving extensive physio treatments on it... it pays to be married to a physio but this injury is taking for freakin' ever! Maybe I'm too old for this sh....stuff.

My 3 year old bugs me at least every other day about a skateboard. I've fostered his interest by showing him old skateboarding videos I lived and died by (Fulfill the Dream, Menekmati, Mullen v Song series etc...). Surprisingly, he loves them and takes his little finger board and batman figure and pretends to do the same things. It's really quite fascinating to see.
I'm scared poopless of getting back on a skateboard, because I was so reckless when I was a kid, and the way my body has been holding up the past few months.... yikes. haha. But I'm going to work on strength training the rest of my body so I can do it with my kid.

Bodies just don't bounce back as quickly as they used to when we were younger, but it doesn't mean we have to stop doing cool stuff - we just have to be more careful doing it. If guys like Tony Hawk can still be landing 900s at 47 years old, there's no reason I can't go cruise around with my kids. When I hit the park I'll probably be all armored up though. Knee & elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet, the whole nine yards. Yeah it's super geeky but when you have bones that snap like crayola crayons, that's the price of admission.

Anyone still doing this? My kids all wanted to start so I decided to get back on the board. It has been coming back decently so far. Youtube has been awesome for helping. I have gone all in on Kijiji purchases and now have 3 skateboard set ups plus an indoor set up without grip tape for practicing my foot movements. I also bought an adjustable rail because why not go all in on trying to hurt myself.

I'm trying to learn to skateboard right now in my mid thirties. My goal is to land a kickflip. I can do it 5% of the time on grass as well as a handful of easier tricks. I'm terrible but it's super fun. Which resources are the most helpful for you so far? The only thing that's really helped me is asking my friend who knows how to skate.

I am in same boat 34 never landed a kickflip in my life. Look up Braille Skateboarding Kickflip challenge. It is a 30 day program that walks you through from never being on a board to kickflip. I am on day 6 but can already do everything that has been covered so far. The compound also has new to skate program drop in sessions I might try out as well. https://thecompoundyyc.com/
I can ollie over a deck and sort of boardslide a little bit but nothing consistent or well.

So, four years later and I'm still wishing I can have time to get out and skate. My kids never took interest beyond, "let me try that a quick second... nope too hard".
They all have inline skates so I may try to get them out on those and I'll take my deck.

Yeah, my kids didn't ever get beyond barely proficient as a mode of transportation and were not interested at all for tricks. It was a downer because when I thought I had some momentum on teaching them one summer I offered to either build a half-pipe in the backyard or buy a trampoline. They picked trampoline and I was so sad.
I pretty much only longboard now and haven't taken out my regular skateboard all season.

I just picked up my fourth board to complete my indoor trainer. Got a too good to be true deal and sure enough it was. Contactless pick up so grabbed skate off stairs got to car 2 mins driving later I noticed a skunk smell in my car. Got home 15 mins later and the board has recently been skunked.
It is now in a garbage bag attached to an ozone machine hoping that kills the smell at least off trucks and wheels which is all I need anyways. Also hoping the 15 mins in my car doesn’t make it permanently smell

You gotta pour tomato juice all over it. Seriously though that sucks, skunk is so pervasive.

Ya the ozone didn't get it all out so I left it outside today. I will have to do a deep scrub of the trucks and wheels hopefully I can make them smell nice so I can use it indoors.
I spent a solid 2.5 hours at the skatepark last night. Feeling more confident on the board each day and my ollies are getting more consistent. I also learned that the lights turn on so I can stay late which is nice since all the teenagers go home around 9:30
