It was unnamed local reporter throwing shade. Not Burke.

Burkie also singled out Frolik yesterday for being a guy who always has a smile on his face and a positive attitude. The team is fortunate to have him.

Reading in between the lines, Burke seemingly said, if Brouwer doesn't have a good playoffs, the flames are going to hell him to #packyour####.

Man your insufferable these days. I don't know if it's something going on with you personally but it seems every thread I read your in there jumping down someone's throat or being unnecessarily catty. You have quickly gone from a poster I looked forward to input on, to someone who just seems like a internet bully looking for cool guy points ####ting on other posters.

Sorry, I just want to clarify it was not Burke who was discussing the Gio vs. Iggy captain debate. That was one of the local reporters.
They also added that at the time, Iggy very much had the attitude that "who else has scored 50 in a season on this team? I don't need to play defence."
Again, given the source I would take it with a grain of salt but I did want to share with you all what was said.

He was the last one to leave the ice and his effort out there was incredible.
Both him, Freddie Hamilton, Lazar and Bennett all stopped to sign autographs for a young kid that was there watching practice on their way off the ice.

No that was not at all what Burke said. What he said was he's a nasty, ugly player, sure he doesn't have the number of points they were all expecting but this guy lives for the playoffs.

One other thing Burke said which I forgot to mention in the OP was that he felt there is not a single cup champion since the Ducks won it in 2007 that would beat that team in a series, in fact he thinks that Ducks team would kick the **** out of a number of them. He just said that team was a tough, mean team to play against. Followed it up by saying he wishes there was a way to measure that kind of stuff.

This. I am expecting the real Brouwer to show up when (if?) we start the playoffs.

Re: Wideman
I generally get to the games when there is about 10 minutes left in the pre-game skate and I have actively been looking to see if Wideman has been there. You see Big Brother Hamilton and Lazzar out there taking the skate, but I have yet to see Wideman. I think the being a pro conversation he has had with the coach pretty much tells me I can can probably stop looking.

I expected his, and all vets', games to pick up after the all-star break and they have. (as happens pretty much every year)
I have no doubt that the Versteeg - Bennett - Brouwer line will be a solid 3rd line force down the stretch and into the playoffs.

I imagine Wideman would be down in Stockton right about now if he didn't have a No-Move Clause.

Ok...but follow the logic to the statement. Here's what I'm seeing.
(1) Flames sign a 30 y/o player for $4.5m x 4 years
(2) Player performs about as well as a $2m player in regular season in first season
(3) Burke saying the premium for the players playoff abilities is well worth the price tag of $4.5m
Now what happens in Brouwer is mediocre in the playoffs? The flames have two choices...
1) Pay a premium to Vegas so they don't select a Brouwer who is seemingly overpaid based on his regular season and playoff performances. Flames are betting a 31 y/o player rebounds markedly in his second year of contract...
2) Expose a player that is seemingly overpaid. If Vegas selects him, the flames ends up with a non-core, post-apex, overpaid player off the books.

Burke mentioned similar players to Brouwer all signed 5 or 6 year deals and he said those teams are going to choke on the last two years of those contracts.
You could tell he and the rest of the organization loves Brouwer and what he brings to the table both on and off the ice. Based on what i heard yesterday, it sure sounded like he wouldn't be going anywhere. Again, just my opinion.

People who run teams understand that players, and teams, have good years and bad years.
They understand that putting a winner together requires patience.
Unlike fans who look at the last few games and demand trades / firings after every loss.

I remember last season, the organization was singing the praises of Kris Russell right before he was dealt at the deadline. I would not be shocked one bit if Brouwer was traded in the offseason, rather than exposing him at the expansion draft. No use in trash talking an asset that you plan on getting full value for.
