On the ice? Absolutely.

On a Habs/Preds broadcast 10 years later? I highly doubt it.

Back onto the topic of the Oilers being no good though the Smyth trade was a great example of the franchise ineptitude. He was traded over a couple hundred thousand dollars and the Oilers pretty much got nothing in return.
Same. It's not helping the stigma when guys on your TV set are mocking a guy for expressing emotion. Part of the problem is when these alpha male types equate emotion with weakness through their comments. In this day and age where equality is a prevalent thing we need to get rid of that.

I was never a fan of Smyth and love poking fun at just about anything Oilers related but it goes beyond the hockey side of it. At the same time I won't hold it against anyone for finding amusement in it. It's just my take on it.

Fair enough. Not excusing their behavior on a broadcast obviously. However, the story doesn't shock me in the slightest.

Those guys are hacks. The main panel on HNIC is passably OK, but the drop off in talent after that is shocking to say the least.

Armstrong and Whitney are just ######bags in my opinion. That is what they regularly come across as to me.

Whitney especially... he even seems to try so hard at it.

If Armstrong wanted to tell an interesting story about chirping that happened on the ice, so be it. However, it was them reveling in it and making ongoing jokes about it that really crossed the line.

It's essentially grown adults doing what highschool kids do to beat their proverbial chests. Except on television, in a professional setting.

On Twitter, Rob Tychkowski usually provides a rare voice of reason in no-good land. Here's his take on the Garth Brooks banner:

(And a great reply to a follower who likes the Garth banner:

I've heard that they made that Brooks Banner out of sweatpants and good shoes.

Anyone who willingly spends 2 weeks in Edmonton when they could be anywhere else deserves a banner.

Definitely unprofessional and although there is nothing wrong with men crying, the ´´I promised Horc I wouldn´t do this´´ part was funny.

Where´s the Jim Benning ´´there are 2 Whitney´s´´ meme?

Edmonton is no good.

The Oilers are a pop-gun offence with a single scoring line and a collection of marginal NHL defensemen. Their goalie is on track to play more games than any other goalie in a decade and will be exhausted as they back in to the post season. This team is the modern equivalent of the 2005–08 Calgary Flames.

Sure Calgary is playing better now, but I still don't fear them at all - 7 game win streak or not. Its not like this current streak is against strong teams and they won three in OT - NYI, Detroit (OT), Kings (OT), Carolina, Florida, Tampa, NSH (OT). I still think the Oilers are better in almost every category.
Haha the over confidence of their team is amazing.

That is pretty rich considering they recently lost to Carolina, Nashville, Tamp Bay.

Smyth was always a good guy on and off the ice.
I have to agree. The trade was pretty amusing to watch at the time and poke jabs at. In reality though Smyth is pretty much as tough as they come.. got run over by his uncle when he was 12!

Then that 'once an Oiler always an Oiler' thing came about.. more funny stuff, haha

Well, the Isles should be fuming after yesterday's game and they're fighting for their playoff lives in the East, it could be time for another debacle of monumental proportions Tuesday night.
