You don't think Tyler Parsons will eventually make the jump? He is the best goalie prospect in hockey and already looks like a young Quick.

According to Craig Button. Though I'd have a real tough time putting him over several Russian guys who are already killing it in the KHL, or more established guys like Saros or Grubauer.

Yeah I'd take Saros in a heart beat over Parsons.

After the trevor kidd draft, i've learned to never project a goalie...
just load up on them, let them mature in the minors, and hopefully you've lucked out on one of them 5 - 6 years down the road...

He plays on a stacked junior team. Parsons will need a good season in the AHL before I get too excited.

Same here. Throw as many darts at the board as you can and hope you luck into a good one. Or you can have a draft like SJ that one year where they picked all of Nabokov, Toskala, Kipper and Johan Hedberg.
Calgary selecting goalies will eventually pay dividends. We may get to a point where we have multiple young goalies like the Canadiens did with Price/Halak or the Ducks with Andersen and Gibson. Just have to see how things shake out.
I would not be opposed to use another pick on one this year.

Well, it'd have to be either a 1st or a 4th as we don't have our 2nd or 3rd

I see your point, but the Flames are running out of places to play goalie prospects. Drafting a CHL goalie leaves him in the CHL for 1-2 more years, and there very well might not be a spot for him in the AHL. Maybe another college goalie?
I'm not sure where Parsons is going to play next season.

He does play on a stacked team but they still give up 30 shots a game. He has played 28 games only this year due to injuries and WJC. If you extrapolate out for 45 games that he would have played the shots count would be about 1345 shots faced. This would put him in the top 10 for shots faced. The team does not play a tight defensive game. His GAA is 2.38 this year and has 18-5-3 record. The other goalie has a GAA of 3.11 and his record is 12-5-0.

The other nice thing about Parsons is his numbers have improved every season. This points to.progression and consistency.
Also I think if you stick to a model where you use a 2nd or 3rd rounder every second draft you will have a stocked goaltender pool in your system. Mix in the odd Rittich/Schneider type signings and you put yourself in a position to strike gold without breaking the bank at the draft.

Maybe a Euro goalie in the later rounds that you don't have to worry about for 3-4 years?

He's been great this year, but I wouldn't go anywhere near a contract longer than 2 years if I were Bergevin. Radulov has shown he can get disinterested pretty quickly if he's not happy with a situation.
Maybe he's grown up a lot in the last few years, but I would want a little more proof before anchoring my team to that.

What an solid signing that was. Still can't believe how many people mocked it.
8 year extension is laughable though.

Would people be comfortable with paying Radulov $5.75M AAV over 6 yrs? For reference, Okposo was paid $6M AAV over 7yrs last summer, after having put up better slightly better offensive numbers ( on Tavares' wing) than Radulov is this season, and he's a couple years younger.
Obviously Brouwer would need to go.

No thanks.
Too much risk he takes his ball and goes home when things get tough

Why is it hard to believe that people mocked it? The guy had a track record of being an inconsistent player who was a distraction off the ice.
Clearly it has worked out, but I don't see why a point of view, based on the information available, that the signing had some risk - should be unbelievable?

Because it was a one year deal with little to no risk for a guy who based off his KHL numbers was still very likely to produce top six NHL numbers.
Yet people mocked it like it was the worst and most embarrassing signing of the off-season. It didn't help that it came not long after the Subban/Weber trade which people seemed to think was already a huge mistake for the habs, so they just piled on when this happened.

I think that's a reach to say that he is the #1 goalie prospect in hockey. The fact that he is junior hockey alone means there is a ton of uncertainty over whether or not he will become a starter, let alone a good one.
He might be in the conversation but I would not attach that label to him.
