Despite the theatrics to win it at the end, the flames need to be way better in games like this. Detroit is the worst team in the east right now. That second period was abysmal and we were outshot 37-31.
Great win but need to be significantly better against actual playoff teams.
We had a flat 2nd and a final second breakdown. If the ref calls that a penalty shot the wings wilt away. Always need to tighten stuff up but that was a solid game for good chunks.
Pretty soon here after the three day break following Sunday we play game on game off for the rest of the season which I think will only help this team get even more consistent.
Let's not lose perspective of Polak's wisdom. If the Flames had lost tonight and the Kings won tomorrow, we'd still have been ahead of them. It could have been dire.

Oh don't get me wrong, hot teams find ways to win and we're clearly a hot team right now.
I would just be concerned if we had that type of dismal second against a quality team how quickly that game would getaway from us.

I love this logic. He's already decided the Kings have won tomorrow. What a dour reality to live in.
Kinda feel like Moose coulda got the hat - he was outstanding - but man has Backlund ever been clutch, back-to-back OT wins where he was instrumental in the finisher. Selke for sure.
I remember getting into battles with where r u and saying that backlund could become a less d.ouchey Ryan Kessler and if he ends up grabbing a Selke he'll have done just that. So happy we've been patient with Backs; really starting to payoff now!

Lol, I was thinking during the OT it looked like they were trying to boost their corsi. Very Eakins-like. Kept trying to get the puck on net through Flames defenders and I guess go for a greasy goal? Every time it resulted in an odd-man rush the other way.
No wonder they're 4-11 in OT now. Too bad it didn't make it to a shootout. They're perfect there.
