Up until a few a weeks ago his biggest folly looked like the coaching hire. Now that that's sorted it's self out his worst decision is debatably the Brouwer signing. If that's the worst thing on his resumé, sign the guy NOW!

The Flames are high on Conroy but I think it would be a mistake to replace Treliving with him right now.

I don't see him as the respected long standing hockey citizen and leader that becomes president, and does ... who knows what?

If Burke leaves, Maloney takes his spot imo.

I have no doubt in my mind that Treliving will be extended.

I would be shocked if Tre didnt come back. Shocked. This is basically a non-issue. They're leaving it until the offseason to negotiate numbers - so as not to be a distraction.
No way Tre gets to make all these deadline moves if he won't be back. even the way is he talking - hinting at re-signing stone, hinting at who and who won't be protected in expansion...sounds like a guy who expects to be here. And the length of the Johnny and Monahan signing....not decisions you leave to a guy you won't have full confidence in.

Was at the flames' luncheon today and Burke opened up a Q&A session.
When Tre's contact was brought up, he said:
1) mention his own experience as a GM in vancouver, signed a deal but when the team got sold he was fired on his last year. Can't be certain what he's trying to imply, but that's how he started with answering the question.
2) Media blowing this topic out of proportion.
3) Believe they will get something done after the season is over, perhaps around April/may.

If I'm the flames I sign him after the expansion draft. Then I let him sign Stone as a Ufa. Pretty much giving the team an out for circumventing the expansion draft (no gm signed to get the stone contract done).
Wink wink nudge nudge!

I'm eager to get Tree extended, and not just because the team's doing well at the moment. The overall direction of the team with him manning the rudder has been positive, and I've always felt comfortable with him at the helm. There's yet to be a moment during his tenure where I've found myself chewing my nails with anxiety over a move he's made or may make.
All of the uncertainty surrounding his future here strikes me as weird, and it somewhat worries me that Friedman is the dude who got it all started. HAS he heard something?

Maybe the team is going to be sold? The owner has moved to London and maybe will have different interests.

It might explain the sudden rush to introduce the idea of a new arena? It certainly wouldn't hurt having the process started... Even if it was completely miss-managed.

I think what Burke meant by that statement, is that Treliving is no more a lame duck GM than a GM with a year left on their contract. Even is you have another year, doesn't mean you will be back

Murray Edwards is one of six owners that make up the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation. And while Edwards is chairman of the group it's doubtful the Flames are for sale because of the move.
Some pretty crazy wild speculation in this thread.
