Net traffic increases and you get a little bit leash from the officials. I think if they make it those calls McDavid seemed to draw regularly is now just playoff hockey.
I'll believe it when I see it. One of the biggest reasons I wouldn't want to play the Oilers in the playoffs is the McDavid effect (especially when combined with the Wideman effect). If you thought the current officiating was brutal...

out of the probable playoff teams in order of teams I don't want to face to teams that I'm ok with
Anaheim - Man I hate those guys, and they just seem to grind us into the dirt.
Chicago - They're Chicago, come on man
San Jose - they're older, they're a good combination of size and speed and skill and truculance. And they worship Odin the god of beards who favors them
Minny - We beat them this year a lot, but they added size and depth of the middle and I think they'll be one of the favorites in the West. Plus they weld their hockey sticks like the staff of Rha and nobody stops them.
Nashville - They're very good and very deep and have a good blueline, but the upper tier of Western teams are all going to be a handful.
LA - I think that they are still going to favor that down low beat the crap out of you game plan, plus Charlie Sheen is a fan so they'll be getting bottles of Tiger Blood.
Edmonton - Yeah and here's the thing before Oiler fans come in here acting like the Nashville Predators mascot in a adult movie theatre. Are they good? Sure why not. Did they sweep the Flames? Yuppers. But I look at the team that the Oilers faced, the team that hadn't bought into the coaches game plan. The indecisive team that wasn't getting good goaltending. And I look at the Flames team now that since November has been the 6th best player in the league and I like. Ney I want that matchup with the Oilers. Yes they have the Connor factor and the adulation of the NHL and refs everywhere. But all of their strength is on the first line. I look at the flames Blueline with Stone added to it and I like that better. Talbot is one of the main reasons for the Oilers success. But I think in a playoff series the longer it goes the more it favors the Flames who I think are a deeper organization.
I'll take the Oilers in round one if I can Alex. I think they're going to be the weak link in the Western Conference Playoffs.

A lot of Oiler fans I talk to are arrogantly saying they want the Flames in the first round so they can quickly move onto the 2nd round. So cocky for fans of such a loser franchise.
Smug. The word to describe the Oiler fan base is smug.
There has never been a more smug fan base in the entire NHL.
Oiler fans are smug
Vancouver fans are douchy
Toronto fans are blindly optimistic
Montreal fans over-react and feel entitled
Winnipeg fans are over-sensitive and combative
Calgary fans are pessimistic and a bit whiney
Ottawa fans are...oh who cares.
Please take the above with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
Although Oiler fans are smug.

If we swept them we'd be saying the exact same thing. Some of us are even saying we want them in the 1st round cause we'll have no issue taking care of them even though the owned us this year.
It's a rivalry. Everyone thinks that their team is superior no matter what (unless there's a massive divide ala the last 10 years for those clowns)

I haven't heard any of that myself. Most of us want the Flames simply because it's been far, far too long since they met in the playoffs. For the Oilers to make their first appearance back in a decade, first home playoff game in the new building - it really should be the Flames and it has nothing to do with odds of winning.

The Flames happened to play three of their absolute worst "crap the bed" games of the season in that season series, in the two worst stretches of their season in october and late january. Does it happen another 4-5 times consecutively? Doubtful.
If the series happens I hope their fans and team go into it with that attitude cause it'd be even better if the Flames bring the game they're capable of playing.
However, I'd say the impression I got of fans over there upon my skimming a couple days ago was a real sense of fear of a BoA series coming to fruition, more than cockiness.

They will quickly be reminded of the saying " be careful what you wish for"!

We would be more justified in saying that based off the previous decade of dominance. In reality the Oilers caught the Flames at 2 low points of the season. If the teams played tonight it would be interesting to see if the Oilers are in the Flames head or they just faced the Flames at a weak time in their season

These are fantastic characterizations. I agree with them all.

I would also add sanctimonious to the description of Calgary fans.

If the Oilers and the Flames were to both make the playoffs (neither is safe yet), then this is (as an Oiler fan), my preferred matchups starting with the team I'd like to see the most first.
1. St. Louis
2. Calgary
3. LA
4. Anaheim
5. Nashville
6. Minnesota
7. San Jose
8. Chicago

Pretty entertaining interview so far. I'm only five mins in and he says they fixed his teeth pretty much upon arrival in NJ, and he jokes it didn't get done in edmonton because they didn't want to pay for it.
Ryan Whitney - "We just used to crack jokes about edmonton. God it's like 1970 up here. Holy ####, they're just getting music that was released three years ago in america" lol
Glenn Anderson was drunk and pumping Lady Gaga, and Hall chirped him. Lowe had to tell Anderson to stop partying with the 20 year olds.
This is gold.
Great interview. Former Oiler or not, Hall comes across as a pretty smart guy and seems like a cool dude. Some good stories and well worth the listen.
An Edmonton - Calgary match-up in the playoffs would be magnificent to watch, that's for sure. Hopefully the Flames have Lazar up to speed and utilize him like the Flames used Sheehy against Gretzky or Otto against Messier. Backlund is definitely the defensive stalwart for the Flames, but having someone a bit nastier who is also capable of shadowing would be great.
However, I much prefer the Oilers to go on some kind of losing streak and completely implode until then. Just too many smug Oiler fans (though most of the ones on this board that post regularly I actually like, so I apologize in advance for any over-the-top reveling by me just in case it happens )
