Cause I don't like the trade and would rather keep the pick or spend it on something else?
Yeah and that post had two random bad picks we made. Decent players get drafted in the 2nd all of the time. It's a pretty valuable pick. Better players were had for less and I'm sure better players will be drafted in the 2nd than Lazar.
Value of a #41-50 pick per Cullen:
~37% chance that player plays 100+ NHL games
that is in an average draft....this is a weak draft by all accounts
Disappointed. That 2nd could have been a PK Subban or Patrice Bergeron.
Basically, if you were going up to the podium on draft day in the 2nd round and you knew that the guy on the board would have 36 points in his first 176 games, would you still take him even if his junior stats were good?
Not the end of the world I just don't like the trade.
I think the answer would be a definite yes. 176 games, even if the production is disappointing, is still very good for a 21 year old.
Go back and look at the much heralded 2013 draft. There aren't many 2nd rounder that have played that much.
He still has plenty of upside and is already a border-line NHLer at worst.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
I don't think so.
Majority of the other trades involved UFA's, so obviously their value would be a lot lower. Getting a young cost controlled player with upside is gonna cost more than a UFA.
For this trade to go through, the flames scouts pretty much had to say that there isn't anybody in the 2nd round this year that they feel could contribute to the team more than Lazar in our desired time frame.
I feel like if Lazar can anchor our 3rd line RW going forward, it would turn out to be a good trade for us.
This pretty much sums up this trade. I know nothing about what the second round of the 2017 draft will bring, so I'll side with the scouts on this one.

I like it. Kevin wasn't impressing anyone here. This definitely isn't wasting assets. Lazar is a project but maybe a change of scenery will help him a lot.
Do we know much about his character? Do we know how he has been playing in Ottawa this year? What line, pp, pk, etc? I have had mono when I was in university and training at an elite level in my sport and that sickness knocked me on my @ss for months. It wasn't fun, definitely derailed my physical abilities at around the same age, so I feel for him.
Hopefully this rejuvenates him. I think BT did a great job this deadline. I am happy he didn't go get a true rental. Building pieces of our team for relatively cheap prices is a great plan.

Because you're acting like the 2nd has more value than it does. Overreacting again. This trade is a risk, like drafting a 2nd is. arguing the difference between this trade or drafting someone with the 2nd is so small that it's virtually pointless. Moreso in the weakest draft in years.
I'm not a big fan of using games played as an indicator for success. The are a lot of factors that can affect that statistic aside from whether a player is good or not.
I personally doubt this will pan out for us, but the odds probably aren't any worse with an average 2nd round pick, so I voted neutral. I am really curious to see where this goes though as I really liked the pick for Ottawa at the time when they picked him 17th overall.
At the very least, he seems like a guy who has a great attitude and brings character.

Lazar need to impress, and hopefully that is in Stockton. I hate it when the Flames trade for questionable prospects from other organizations and then slot them into the lineup ahead of their own prospects who have been slugging through it in a crappy development system. Lazar should be measured against his peers on the farm, then earn a call up.
you know what (classic Feaster opener)? I am perfectly okay with that, Bennet has proven to be a dynamic winger and a struggling/developing center. It's should be acceptable to move Bennett to the wing where he has been at his best in the nhl and let him just play. IMO, we're going to need Bennett the LW more than we are going to need Bennett the developing center in this push for the playoffs.
I just dont get why its so horrible for some fans to hate Bennett at LW.
We have no RW Depth - Especially coming down the pipeline, 2nd a Kevin to me is an easy trade for Lazar. I see no reason he cant come in and rotate on the 3rd/4th line RW spot
