All within a few points, they aren't all gonna have great records
92 points (likely less) gets it done

Indeed! 92 points is very likely 93 is a lock. I see it now.

Burrows has 9 goals and 20 points in 55 games, traded for a decent prospect.
Iginla has 8 goals and 18 points in 61 games, traded for a conditional 4th round pick.
Sakic is a terrible GM.

You can say you don't want him messing with the chemistry of the team but don't say Iggy would've been disruptive in the locker room. He's a consimate professional who I'm sure would've known his role if traded here.

I also know that this team was a listless old boys club for a good 3-4 years preceding him getting traded(which, at the time, was about 2+ years after he should have been traded for us to get a suitable return)
They almost immediately turned the corner and became a totally different team since.
Granted, there was a lot of changes that happened at that time, but I truly believe iginla was an addition by subtraction when he was moved. It changed the culture on the team. Its fine to say he could come back and just be a role player, but there is too many potentially negative what ifs(his play on the ice not withstanding) for me to ever think it would be a good idea to bring him back for anything other than a 1 day retirement contract

well Burrows was a terrible deal but they obviously wanted him and have him for 2 seasons after this one now

Burrows is 35-years-old, and there were almost certainly no competing offers for Iginla. I agree that Sakic is not a good GM, but this is not an example of his ineptitude.

The whole point of this was just to get rid of Iginla.
Because hes paid too much.
Its pretty simple. Its shedding payroll. Its a layoff.

it's not a layoff.
it's sakic treating a hall of fame veteran with respect and moving him to a spot where he has a shot at the playoffs with a team that wants him.
That's worth much more than a 3rd round draft pick.

I'll agree that its the best thing for Iginla other than, you know, 'not signing with Colorado in the first place.'
But its a layoff.
"Sorry man, but our ship is going down. Better luck elsewhere."
The fact that Iginla still has skills and value is a credit to him. The Avs...not so much.

Actually that scenario says to me that Ottawa has a terrible GM. Especially with the subsequent resigning. Then the NMC just iced that particular turdcake.

They weren't getting a 3rd anyway
they save some money and might get something=better than nothing
pretty simple

It would be a massive d-move to ask for that number from another accomplished vet
I don't really like the player anymore but obviously he wouldn't do that

"Moving forward" is not a defined prescription. LA is still a very strong and skilled team and they can do significant damage in the playoffs. Yesterday was an indication - they played a very good, solid game. Why not milk it and take advantage of it? The more they can get out of the machine, the better. All NHL teams go through extended slump periods and emerge from them at some point or another after years of sucking. Accelerating the slump is not wise. Investing in repairs could bring a much better results when the structure is still holding up well.

More importantly is how are the Oilers going to miss the playoffs.
I think 6-10-2 for 90 points should do.

Kinda sad Flames didn't get Iggy back, but I think if the Kings make the playoffs, they're gonna go far anyway with or without Iggy. So, I'm hoping the Kings will make the playoffs. Just hope Flames and Kings won't meet in the playoffs.

Theres no dignity to be found here, now hes just bouncing from team to team.
Its a sad end for a great player.

There's nothing sad about it. He's playing hockey, it's not that serious.
