I don't think even TSN believes the hype anymore. Everyone knows today's NHL isn't a trading league, but we keep pretending the deadline is a huge sports event mainly out of habit and wishful thinking.

Really the trade deadline is only exciting if the team you cheer for is a seller as you get to count all the picks and prospects coming back for rentals. For fans of the buyers it's actually scary to see prospects and picks given up for a short term rental knowing few make significant contributions to eventual cup winning teams.
