Huh? They don't. Players need to clear waivers in order to be sent to the AHL.

Sometimes a player will clear waivers and then be traded for so the interested team can send a contract and salary back.

We all saw this coming. There could only be one cool name in hockey per team. Johnny Hockey fills that quota.

Jyrki Jokipakka... Thought he was going to be the next Zarley Zalapski. I guess in some ways, he is.

I will miss him on this team, for the sole reason that he was the first Flames player my 2.5 year old said. My son actually would watch games with me for the singular reason to hear the play by play guy say 'Jokipakka'.

Also the receiving team would want the player pre-cleared if they are planning to send him down to the AHL so they don't lose him to waivers right after trading for him.

Great situation for him past year with Nakladal. That pairing was great with how they fed off one another. This year they tried to either:

a) Force him to play top 4 with Hamilton. A competition level dooming him to fail.
b) Force him to play with Engelland, a pairing naturally doomed to fail a la Smid-Engelland, Wideman-Engelland, Brodie-Engelland, Russell-Engelland, Wotherspoon-Engelland.

I never said Kulak-Engelland or Giordano-Engelland were that bad. Or even Engelland-Hamilton.

Jokipakka has no excuse for being on waivers, but that doesn't mean he can't find a great fit somewhere else where they won't force him to play with a player he can't co-exist with or too high up the lineup.

Nope. No fairness there at all.

When a guy gets TC consideration, and is the captain of your team, you don't start talking expansion fodder just because he has a couple bad games.

It was garbage posting.

Be that as it may, you have cultivated a ricardo-esque reputation for hatred towards a certain player that causes any analysis you do, or any opinions you convey on that player, to be taken with a grain of salt.

Jokipakka was another player who was jerked around by the Flames. He was bounced in and out of the lineup along with Wotherspoon and others from Stockton. He didn't come in and score a bundle of goals, assists and hits so many of you wrote him off. I hope he finds a home and comes back to haunt us. Given a chance he's a pretty good player.

Oh grow up. He did nothing with his play to warrant a reaction like this. He was subpar defensively, weak along the boards, and a mess when he made a mistake. He couldn't stick in this line up due to his own ineptness. And that's saying something when freaking WIDEMAN is on the same defensive corps.

And that's ignoring his absolute lack of contributions offensively either. I really REALLY wanted him to step it up too, cause I honestly thought he was going to take a huge step forward, owing to a change in scenery. But alas, he turned out to be exactly what the Stars fans told us he was. An AHL tweener, who might have the skills but can't seem to put it together.

Too bad, I had high hopes for Jokipakka but if you can't surpass Wideman on the depth chart you are not an NHLer.

Also, in hindsight it is too funny early in the year some CPers were freaking out about losing him in expansion and were proposing scenarios of exposing Gio or going the 4 and 4 route.

Jokipakka is in that tweener spot right now. He was bad but he wasn't a night-in-night-out option for the club.

I hope he is passed on and winds up in Stockton, we can still use a young guy like that as a 7th/8th option. That's all he is and those players should be on the farm until they are needed.

Unfortunately they have way too many players right now and someone has to go. They have a couple of extra defensemen in Wideman and Jokipakka and one extra forward in Freddie Hamilton. Problem is, the only way the Flames can get rid of Wideman is for Wideman to agree on a trade. He is not allowed to be sent to AHL so they were forced to put Jokipakka on waivers in order to send him to AHL. Maybe someone will trade for Wideman by tomorrow so they can pull Jokipakka off waivers.
