They traded away one of three 2nd round picks they own for the 2017 draft. They made 11 draft picks in 2016 including 1st overall. Don't think their rebuild is going to be all that negatively affected by one pick going out for a rental.

It's not odd.

That's pretty great. I hope the Oilers panic and overpay for someone not great, that'd be fun.

How is this the case? Neither Boston or EDM is in on this deal?

That's 42 playoff games and 7 points more than any current Leaf.

They have only one of the second rounders left. But agreed. They have tons of prospects. They can afford to trade a second rounder for a rental here

he is a half decent player...I just think the lack of talent available has him being seen as some big fish this deadline when really he isn't

TSN doing nothing all day is becoming the tradition

I think he is saying Edmonton didn't have a second to make the deal since they gave it to Boston for their ####ing GM which is kinda funny

Seriously if this is the asking price, the Flames could sell Stajan for a 2nd

They paid a 2nd round for a guy to be their temporary 4th liner rental. I get center depth and all that, but seems kind of expensive given that they're trying to address a minor hole.

No, not with 3.15 still owed to Stajan next season.

Can they beat the pens or caps because of this deal?...obviously not

2nd rounder down the drain

its not so much a bad trade as its just an odd one to me...so much for the patient Leafs

Playing in meaningful games is good experience for the young leafs. Plus like others have said, they have a ton of draft picks and prospects.

If the Leafs make the playoffs, this is well worth it.

that is certainly a matter of opinion...you can never have too many picks or prospects

and again I don't really like the player in the first place

The Leafs have kind of fallen behind the Blue Jays and Raptors in that market so I can see why they are going out to make the playoffs. I don't think a 2nd round pick is too much of a price to pay as they already have a lot of good young prospects.

Lol, the leafs have not fallen behind anyone in the market. They can suck as much as they have and yet still rule that town.

Just because he played on a playoff team doesn't make him a "proven" player. Below average playoff scorer for the teams he played on.

I sense you don't have a great feel for the Toronto sports market right now.

It's weird because the Leafs 4th line is a huge problem and I'm not sure this solves it. Suddenly you're playing Martin with Boyle and... someone, and, yeah, It's a tough, big line, sure. But they're not going to spend much time outside their end, I suspect.

Trust me I do. I was just there in December. Zero talk of Jays and barely any of Raptors. It is a town ruled by leafs, they will give Raptors and Jays their due when they're doing well otherwise it was all Leafs.
