Is it me or did the Lightning just give Bishop and a 5th away for spare junk? I guess they fix a cap problem out of this.
Why not for LA? They pretty much risk nothing in this deal.

It's a great trade for LA. Bishop should do well playing behind that defense.

Anyone who thinks the Pens keep MAF after 3/1 hasn't read the expansion draft rules, clearly. Unless, of course, no GM is willing to hold them over a barrel.

He also has a NMC...which changes everything. Unless they can work out a deal to a club that he says OK too, they could end up with him for the rest of the season still.

I think there will be enough teams out there looking for goaltending that Pittsburgh will get something for him at the end of the season.

I would think the Oil and their fans should be more concerned about the 3 games they have with the Kings.
Solid player for cheap for the Kings. My only reservation on that is that, as the backup, I don't see much marginal change from Budaj's 6 or 7 games to Bishop's 6 or 7 games.
One would think a goal scorer would have more impact on the King's roster.

According to CapFriendly, he has to provide a list of 18 teams he can be traded to. He could list teams like Montreal, LA, and the Rangers who would have no interest in acquiring him, but there will still likely be a few teams on that list who might be a fit, especially if Pittsburgh retains some salary.

Have to wonder if Lombardi thinks this is the last chance for this core group.

this could have been about ensuring the flames, st louis, or nashville don't end up with Bishop. All the starters for these teams have looked shaky

I said it earlier but Elliot has looked a lot better than Bishop as of late.

My thoughts too, and/or Quick isn't 100%.
Pretty much got him for spare parts, so why not.

Bishop has been friggin' stellar as of late, so I disagree with this sentence. Bishop has had his struggles this year, but he's been freaking amazing over his last chunk of games.

Those are his last 12 starts, he's been really, really good - and I wish we had gotten him because I think he's emphatically the better goalie.
...that being said, we will crush him and his LA Kings, and Moose is going to be a big part of that.

Bishop is so overrated IMO.
Guess we will find out on Tuesday as that will likely be his first game and it'll be against us.

I still think it would have been giving up assets for what would amount to a lateral move.
They've both been cold to start and heating up lately.
Not convinced Bishop is that much of an upgrade that we should have given up assets to make the swap.

Bishop is a rental and I don't think LA will re-sign him after this season. I think it is a smart move for LA. #1. teams they are fighting for the playoff spot will not get Bishop. #2. they are probably not sure if Jonathan Quick is a 100% yet. Bishop is a far better option than Petr Budaj if Quick cannot play in the playoff or cannot help LA make the playoff. #3. LA might trade his rights to Las Vegas anyways.
