That is probably true. I would worry about how either Bishop or Quick will play in a situation where one or the other is not playing every game. Both of these goalies are accustomed to playing a lot of games, and could suffer for not getting the number of touches they are used to.

With the goalie equipment standards, my thoughts equate Bishop to MMA's Johnny Hendricks when they brought in steroid testing.
A whole lot of question marks within a new regime of rules.

Like literally a song. Singing a song into the phone will complete the trade.

there was talk that the penguins were seriously thinking about keeping MAF for the playoff run as opposed to trading him at the deadline...
my guess is that this will push them towards keeping him, even if they lose him at the expansion draft...
but, we'll see i guess.

I think the Pens are likely to hold onto Fleury for the playoffs and move him during the off-season.
The only issue with that is if they go to the Finals again, they won't have a lot of time to make a deal between the end of the Finals and the Expansion Draft. He could get traded while they're passing the Cup around on the ice.
Long ago, I predicted Fleury would end up in Vancouver. I still think that will happen. Whether it's for Miller at the deadline or something else in the off-season, that's where I think he ends up.

Has Sutter ever not just rode one goalie like mad? Can't really remember him having even a close split in games played as a coach.

Dean Lombardi says the #LAKings were unsure if Quick would have his "A game" after a long injury absence. Hence the Bishop acquisition.
Stephen Whyno @SWhyno
Lombardi wanted 2nd goalie: "I think the days of playing Jon Quick 70 games like we did 70 years ago make no sense."
Stephen Whyno @SWhyno
Lombardi calls Ben Bishop the Kings' "top target and says, "This is not an insurance policy."
Said he hoped to make trade 2 wks ago, but logistically wasn't possible then
Josh Cooper @JoshuaCooper
Lombardi said the point is to have a No. 1 goalie in the net every night

Pens won't lose MAF at expansion draft. They'd lose Murrary

That's an insurance policy Dean. Just because you say it isn't doesn't mean ####.

Is this a dig at Chia and the Talbot situation?
Kinda seems like it might be.

Pretty sure he is saying they have played him too much in the past...Not sure how Bishop for a couple months changes anything though

you're right, with MAF's nmc... but i am pretty sure he's said that he'd waive it, so the penguins could move him prior to the expansion draft.
I'd be surprised if MAF forced the penguins hands by forcing them to protect him and expose Murray...the fan base would turn on him instantly

Not sure why you'd think that. Quick has played 70+ twice in his career, and in the high 60s another could of times.
It's the same thing Sutter always said about Kipper, he just could never find a backup who could reliably play enough games to give Kipper the time off.
It's an odd thing to say in this situation because this is the one year that Quick hasn't played too much, and it's highly unlikely that Bishop will re-sign with the Kings even if he's promised a split of the games next season.

They'd buy him out. Then he'd sign elsewhere and probably end up with more money.

It's easy to say they would buy him out, but that's nearly 8M for nothing.
Apparently he lists 18 teams that he would accept a trade to, you would have to think that the Penguins could work out something with one of those 18 teams prior to the expansion draft.

Looks like the Flames will be the first to face Bishop in a King's uni:
David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod
Lombardi said Sutter wants Bishop to start tomorrow at MIN, but might want until Tues at CGY. They want Bishop to get settled in first.

Honestly a bit weird, Quick is back and Budaj played decently. That team needs offense, them getting Bishop doesn't really scare me

If they somehow land Duchene or Landy I would be more concerned but I don't see how they could. That team is not what it was, the league seems to be moving on from their brand of hockey and of course Daryl won't.

To me it looks like Lombardi didn't like any of the forwards on the trade market, and didn't see any of them as players that would improve their goal scoring issues. So instead he doubled down on goaltending to make sure he has number 1 going in every game.
Budaj's game had started to falter here in the last few weeks, so it's not surprising that he moved on from him.
