Michael Frolik said congrats on your 99th goal. I said no Michael it's my 100th, he said oh wow that's great and then I said thanks.

Huh? Do you really evaluate players based on who hits certain milestones first?

Not to mention the post he quoted is talking about age when players reach 100 goals.
Monahan took 22 years 134 days to reach 100.
Barkov's 21 and 175 days old. We still have 10 months before we can say that Monahan scored 100 goals at a younger age than Barkov...

According to NHL.com, today is Monahan's 300th NHL game, if he gets two assists today his stats will be:
300GP, 100G, 100A, 200P
That's crazy!

Same PPG over their careers, Monahan with a better goal per game %. Similar shooting %, Monahan with the edge in faceoffs, Barkov in +/-. I don't know that there is much difference between the two at all to say one is better than the other. Both very good players.

Barkov drives the play much more, is a stud defensively, passing is on par with the best ones, 10/10 would take Barkov.

Barkov started his career as one of the youngest players in the NHL coming over from Europe. He's nearly a full year younger than Monahan. It shouldn't come as a surprise that it took him time to adjust.
In the last 2 years he has a PPG of 0.86 which puts him in the same tier offensively as Stamkos (0.89) and Tavares (0.88).
Monahan's PPG over those same 2 years is 0.71.
In the last 2 years, Barkov is a top 10 center when it comes to goals-per-game with 0.40. The same as Tavares and Seguin.
Monahan's GPG in the last 2 seasons is at 0.33.
It's no knock against Monahan. Barkov is just trending towards elite center range. Barkov has had injuries, which is important as he hasn't put up those stats over a "full year."

I watch Barkov A LOT. I can confirm, these assessments are accurate.
That's coming from a guy who owns a Monahan jersey because I love his game so much. Barkov is just a little better at least in almost every facet of the game.

Yeah Barkov is a better player in most aspects, outside of finishing IMO. Both are obviously great, can't complain with having either.
