If they ever find themselves in a situation where they need to do this again, then I think they should build the schedule so that every team playing their first game back after a mandated break is against a team who is also coming off of their mandated break. The games would suck, but it would help to equalize things.

Yup. this for sure. Kings have played without #1 tender all year and are still sniffing on the doorstep. I expect the Kings to make a run into the playoffs, and it seems probable and likely that Iginla or Doan is joining them for it. I just hope we manage to go 0.500 against them down the stretch.

Speculation is that next year they will tweak it so each conference takes a break at different times...which makes all kinds of sense.
During the 5 days off, the East will play games while the West is off and then vice-versa.
ANd it would only make sense that they do this in a consecutive 10 day period.
Scheduling may really be the killer on this though as it may be difficult to accomplish with building availability and such.
