Same with cap space.

I'd rather spend picks and space on a player that will contribute. I can't find any hockey reason to do this trade, none.
I don't buy a broken car because it's cheap. It doesn't work, I don't need it, it's pointless. Even for two dollars it would still take up space on my drive way.
Bringing in Iginla is not a hockey trade, just admit it. I understand the nostalgia and "hey let's win the cup for him" thing, but he ain't Bourque on a stacked Avs team. He's a guy that has scored 8 goals this year playing butter soft minutes and PP costing 5.5M...
It's ok, I understand you, but running a business or a hockey team based on emotion is probably not the best thing.

totally get your position... said as much in a previous post in fact
there is definitely some nostalgia for those who said yes in the poll...if this were some random player, no one would care, much less start a poll on it.

I think the issue where some of us disagree on is whether this 8G version of Iggy is really who Iggy is now. I feel as though some people feel he has more to give, but if you watch him play, that's who he is now.

I disagree that it would even really be difficult to absorb Cammalleri's salary if the concern is for Backlund's extension. Mason Raymond's contract will come off the books just in time and free up $1.05M. I'm not sure how much Backlund is going to get but I would think that $4.625M is going to cover most of it (his current salary of $3,575,000 + $1,050,000) That bump doesn't even require a replacement player since Raymond's not on the roster.
There is a lot of money being paid to the bottom part of the roster that could be better spent on a player like Cammalleri who is going to contribute as a top six player. Also, with his contract ending in two seasons, that will be $5M that can be allocated to Tkachuk's long-term extension

Just like Nathan MacKinnon is a 12 G scorer now, like Landeskog is an 11 goal man?
Or... like several other people have pointed out in this thread, everyone on that awful team has had their stats affected by the stink there.
Watching him play, he still has the shot and if he's simply coming in in a limited role, he's still potentially an upgrade in our bottom six and a big shot on the power play.

You can say what you want about Iggy but whatever contender he gets traded to I bet he plays at a way better pace compared to his last 2 seasons.

I want to see Iginla come back and be the new Lanny. Win a Cup and ride off into the sunset.

In practical terms we're talking about an upgrade on Chiasson. I don't think it's unreasonable to think Iginla could be better than that, assuming a bit of a motivation boost. (Which isn't an unreasonable assumption.)
...that said, I still don't think it's worth it. There's also a good chance that Iginlas presence becomes a distraction, and the upgrade would be minimal if anything.

In the playoffs, sometimes a distraction is a good thing as long as it's not a distraction inside the room. Having Iginla around could take media attention and pressure away from the younger stars.

Except the Flames didn't have to trade something for that ride off. And Lanny was quite a bit younger, played only sporadically, and there was no cap.
It makes it all so much harder to do.

Despite the initial feel good story.
For me it comes down to not willing to give up A or A- assets or more draft picks to get him.
He likely would require giving up a 2nd round pick.
Leaving us with only one draft pick in first three rounds at a point in our rebuild that we still need to stockpile young assets.

I said no, but I wouldn't mind it either.

Iginlas shooting percentage is lowest of his career, and be a good margin.
So either he has fallen off a cliff in goal scoring ability since last year, or he is unlucky this season
I haven't watched enough of Colorado to say either way, but he's still getting shots, they just aren't going in

I'm abstaining from this vote because I am neither for or against the idea.
I'm definitely curious to see what would happen though.

Would love to see Iginla come back. Not just for nostalgia reasons but for the options he would give the team down the stretch and into the playoffs. I see a good fit for him on the Monahan line, the bennett line, or even the Stajan line. He can bring grit and forechecking to any of those lines plus still has the skill and shot to add depth scoring to the line up. Definitely prefer him to what chiasson, bouma, and brower have brought most nights.
Really like the idea of using him on the powerplay. Especially since it's not as productive lately in terms of the first powerplay unit.

Does anyone know what the actual asking price is for Jarome?

That's a whole other discussion though isn't it?
If the acquisition cost is prohibitive, or if Iginla has a preferred destination option then this whole poll is moot anyway.

The very reasonable price would have to include some move, either with the Avs, or another team, to remove some salary. Even with LTIR, and maybe some salary retention on Iginla, I think you'd need to lower the Flames' current payroll by about $2M. You could make it work by moving Wideman obviously, but absent him, you'd probably need to trade Bouma.

I would bet that Treliving could swing it for a 5th.

I tend to think it'll be around 4th or 5th depending on if more than one team is interested.
