Read books, get sex: That's what racy advertisements on hundreds of city buses are suggesting to teens - and red-faced transit bosses are outraged.
The salacious ads by hip-hop clothing line Akademiks declare: "Read Books, Get Brain."

But kids say "get brain" does not mean smarts. It's slang for oral sex. And the company behind the ads told the Daily News the slogan choice was no mistake.

"We knew this," fessed up Anthony Harrison, Akademiks' ad designer. "It's coded language, city slang. Teens know what it means but the general public doesn't."

The funny thing is that it's true--there was a British study a while ago (I think I posted a link on here about it) that talked about a strong preference amongst women for literate, well-read men, and book publishers all over the world have picked up on this as a way to try to get guys to read. Maybe not at a high-school level, but it does have some merit in adult crowds.

I've always been a guy does pretty well in school, and although I've a number of great girlfriends, I've never been a ladies man, at least compared to some of my buddies.

But one thing I'll always remember is the now-fiance of a friend of mine telling me "stay smart, chicks dig the smart guys." Sure enough, as I've grown older, I've found that to be the case. In a big way. Looks, money are one thing, but self-confidence and intelligence are at the top of any list.

As for the Akademiks thing, I mean, advertising is getting a little crazy, no? I think it's pretty clever marketing on one hand, but I wouldn't want to be bombarded with that if I was a NYC transit user. And no matter how catchy it is, it's too subversive to be allowed up in a public place like that.

Also surprised it got past the authorities. Time for a show of hands- how many people over, say, 30, have heard of this particular slang? I'm an avid hip hop listener, so I'm familiar with it, but I guess many aren't.

Akademiks stuff is hilariously overpriced anyways. I see their stuff at Winners sometimes and it's still amazing how expensive all of it is. 50% off, new sale price = $79.99. Wow! 80 bucks for an embroidered XXXL t-shirt made in China for 3 bucks. Awesome. What a deal.
