So who is this cup favorite that could fit him in?

Any cup contender can fit him in with salary retained.

Iggy will have a lot of interest from any serious contender, one of the best power forwards in the history of the game who can still contribute in a limited role with a good amount of playoff experience. For a team like the Flames that might not even make the playoffs it just doesn't make sense for either side.

I don't think we see Iggy go until players like Eaves are out of the way though.

Hells yes I would. I'm sad now that I can't purchase a Ronald McCracken jersey.

For a fan group that was lamenting the departure of Garnet freaking Hathaway, we sure have "high standards".

It would be nice to have that kind of shot on the power play....and yes, he still has the shot.

Not saying it should happen, but the notion that it makes zero sense is pretty damn suspect.

It makes perfect sense to bring in Iginla at the deadline and I'm surprised so many Flames fans are against it.

1) The acquisition cost is unlikely to be high. Given his age and his current level of play, he will not be one of the top rentals at this years deadline. Given the Flames current position in the standings, a low cost rental makes the most sense.

2) The Flames are looking to add a winger that can potentially add some skill but also someone that brings grit. If Iginla can step up his game for one last playoff push and drops the gloves a time or two along the way, he fits both of those criteria.

3) Bringing back Iginla and going on a late season run could get the whole city behind the team again. This is the type of storyline that fans get excited about and the media grabs hold of. From the point of view of the franchise and ownership, there is some additional value potential there that could spark interest the way a run in 2004 did.

4) If Iginla ends up underperforming or being a poor fit, there is very little at risk. He will be done after 20 games and retire as a Flame. The team is still young and has yet to become a real cup contender. The only casualty will be whatever pick/prospect they trade away which will likely be a 3rd round pick or something equivalent.

On paper it looks like a trade, oddly enough. Points are about the same, Wideman has better +\-, 10 years younger.

This is exactly where I think most of us would come out on the whole thing. Does it make a ton of sense? Probably not. Would we all have a lump in our throats if we heard Beesley belt out "Jaroooooooooooome Iginlaaaaaa!?" Just one more time.

You're damn right we would. Every single one of us.

Disagree, I for one would love to see any McCracken suit up for the Flames.

Ya like the Jays? Any hormones when Joey Bats did the batflip? How about the Joe Carter walk off? Any hormones on that one?

When Lanny went top shelf in the Forum there were a few hormones for sure...

Is his name Ronald McCracken? No? Is he not the best Flame ever? Have a heart. Remember what it means to be a fan. I'm drunk, but I don't think that's the only reason I'm saying this: if you're against Iginla returning to the Flames, you're a bad person (it was either this or calling my pro-Trump aunt a racist on Facebook). Exhibit A: Tinordi.

I did vote no. But depending on how the deal would look, I could possibly be swayed to yes. My concern is that for a team like the Flames, it's more than just adding the player. The history, the personality etc. The team has pretty much changed over since he left, but I still wonder if he can come in now and follow the lead of Backlund, and Giordano. The team has been playing okay, getting good results of late. I don't know if upgrading the lower part of the roster with a large personality helps enough.

I'm nostalgic. I'd love to see Iggy in Flames colors and part of a deep (deep) playoff run and then he retires from the game a Flame (hopefully with a cup).

I agree Iginla with Johnny and Sean would be interesting.

And if for nothing else, getting Iggy to Calgary instead of Edmonton is worth it as well.

Finally - if Iggy does go to Edmonton and the Flames cannot win a cup, I'd be OK with him winning one in Edmonton. There are more important things in life than hating on a dirty town with a terrible road system.

I voted "yes" even though I hope we don't. (But I hope we do so I can be like: "Well, wasn't the correct decision, BUT I guess we'll just have to deal with it...")

Rather Iggy on the top line than Ferland. Rather Ferland on the 4th line than Chiasson.

Seems simple to me. Not seeing the harm in bringing him in
