No, he is not the type of player the Flames require.

I honestly think this is the exact kind of spark that pushes this team to the post season. Just the kind of story that amps everyone up one more notch.
IMO this team is perfectly positioned for such a move, and there's not really much risk.
As I get older hockey becomes much more about entertainment, and way less about winning and losing. This is a huge way to amp up the entertainment value, and more to cheer for.

Only if he comes really cheap.
The question is, how much of his poor season is because he's on a terrible team?

Sports are supposed to be fun. If you don't think seeing Iginla wearing the Flaming C again would be fun, you're either lying or you have no soul.
Do it.

Yes I think it will bring an emotional boost to the team and fanbase. Assuming the cost is really minimal I think the good outweighs the bad

Iggy is an upgrade over: Wideman, Brouwer, Chaisson, Versteeg, Bouma, Stajan, and maybe even Bennett on any given night if he was on another team other than Colorado. That's more than half of the Flames forward lineup. He'd also stand up for any of his teammates. So, yeah, you'd be stupid not to seriously consider him. At the same time, I want to see him get his Cup and then come back to Calgary before he retires.
Edit:
Let me explain why I listed the players in the original post as I did:
Wideman - Iggy can provide the shot that's needed on the point that Wideman possesses. I think Iggy can outskate Wideman any day even at 45.
Brouwer - I'm just not impressed with him. Iggy can outperform Brouwer on the powerplay any day.
Chaisson - he's got hands of stone - I like Chaisson earlier in the season, but he's got absolutely no hockey IQ. I think Iggy still have what it takes than half of the Flames line up still.
Versteeg - Iggy's size alone and his shot on the point better replaces Wideman, Versteeg, or any right point guard that the Flames have.
Bouma - He's playing better of late, but he's not like he was when he broke into the NHL with the Flames. I like Iggy better in the corners.
Stajan - I wanted him trade long ago and still want to see him gone. Both him and Brouwer's leadership can easily be replaced by Iggy.
Bennett - he can skate faster than Iggy, no doubt. But who cares if you don't show what it takes to be a top tier NHL-er. Iggy will show you what it takes.
Yeah, Iggy won't be in the top 6 or he may give you a run for it, but dammit, there's a lot more players I'd replace on this team right now than I would the previous years.

I doubt he is an upgrade over Versteeg or Brouwer.
However he is not quick enough any longer to play on the top 2 lines.
Sure he could play the 4th line....
However, he is not the type of a player that is suited to be a grinder.

I'd include Versteeg, Wideman, Stone, or whoever they put on the right point or the right side.

Yes. I personally want Iggy back. Especially if Treliving misses out on some winger targets at the deadline. Iggy wouldn't cost much at all in comparison and it's freakin Iginla.

All things being equal - especially salaries - I would want Iginla on my team over Wideman. And salaries are basically equal.

it would certainly make a nice story, but would people be disappointed in the player he is now?

I'd be happy to see him back here, and I would totally expect that he would be more role player than anything maybe able to chip in here and there on the PP. I also think he would be re-energized as well.

In my view the Flames would not have interest in either player...
Sure they are ex-Flames. In terms of Iggy I bet he retires after this season.
Its time to move on...
Use the assets on younger players who could have an impact (i.e. Michael Stone trade for example).

a third line winger who has a great shot on the PP and plays with grit and stands up for his teammates?
That's EXACTLY what this team needs.

I am not saying bring hudler back FWIW.
I think alot of people here have not watched Iggy play enough and are just looking at a stat line.

Neither. I would prefer a player that can fit in the system and play the role assigned. Neither player fits in the need of the team.
