With 22 games left the Flames control their own destiny due to their 4 point lead over the Kings and the Jets.

Uh, no.
The Flames are 1-1 in SJ (3 Nov: 3-2; 20 Dec: 1-4), and 1-0 at home (11 Jan: 2-3). They still have one home game (31 Mar) and one more in SJ (8 Apr).

You seem to be greatly underestimating Iginla. Iggy is still better than Versteeg, Chiasson and outside of the PK, Brouwer. He is not that slow, and he is a fierce competitor. Iggy coming home wouldn't be the distraction some people seem to think it would be. He'd be a 3rd line/PP forward, and it would be an improvement on what we're currently icing.

Does anyone else see the irony in the fact that a prime Iginla, Regehr and Kipprusoff would cure all that woes the Flames?

Absolutely correct.
Not emotionally influenced. He is not 2002 Iggy but the whole blowing the zone and washed up crap we hear is attempted confirmation bias.

Iggy might not be the player he was, but he's still the class of the league. He'll find another gear in the playoffs like he always does, and will become the inspiration the team needs to beat the "better" teams they are sure to face. I actually think Iggy is exactly the player Treliving should pick up. He'll give everyone reason to believe it can happen! Ask yourself this, do you think the Flames can win the Cup this year without him?!

Bold prediction: With or without Iggy,or any player you could pick-the Flames will not win the Stanley Cup this year...

Wow, really, the Flames are a longshot? Thanks.
I'm just saying there is always a chance, and it seems more plausible with Iggy providing a good bit of motivation to get 'er done.

I dunno. I think theoretically Crosby, Burns or Dubnyk would help their chances significantly.
Iginla not so much. Could he inspire them to go a series deeper than they would otherwise? Maybe. While chipping in a couple signature one timers of his own. At the very least it would make for the most hyped up few weeks of hockey in this city in years. These fans could use some real excitement after the strenuous season it has been.

Haven't watched a game for awhile, but managed to sit down and watch this one.
I thought the Flames played well, and their dzone coverage is much better than earlier in the year.
Awesome for Moneyhands to get his 100th!
The only thing I don't like are the PP units. If Hamilton and Gio are your best dmen, why aren't they out there with Johnny/Mony? The other team doesn't have to respect the point at all because Brodie hardly shoots and Versteeg isn't that great. I would have:
PP #1:
Johnny-Mony-Bennett
Gio-Hamilton
PP #2:
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Brodie-Stone

I guess it's all about potential reward eh. Imagine if he went ham and scored a ton of goals. Once last push with his original team...he'd have to be super pumped for that no matter his age. Could be his last season.

I wouldn't mind a swap of Gio and Brodie on the 2 units.
Honestly though, this is the highest ranking pp the Flames have had in in a decade if I remember right. Let the coach make the call.

I see irony in fans pining for players that could never get it done when they were here the first time. Take away 2004 and Iginla, Regehr, and Kipper brought fans late season disappointment annually for a decade.

I blame horrible management for failing to provide adequate support for those players. Those three were the reason we even made the playoffs in the first place.
Saying that without '04 they did nothing is like saying without McDavid the Oilers are trash. Both are probably true but the reality is that 04 happened and McDavid is part of the Oilers team which makes the comment unfair.
