I saw a decent amount of those guys in junior too and none of them have the talent this kid does. Normally I don't get excited about goalie prospects but Parsons is the real deal.

I don't think Matt Keetley ever allowed a goal against in the NHL!!!

I remember the Parson's pick drew the ire of many posters. Goaltender really does seem to be pretty random. I really don't think it's a bad philosophy to keep chucking darts at that board until one sticks.

With only 29 total minutes played during those 883 games, a team has to be very quick to be able to score on him.

I've never allowed a goal in the NHL either.

Speaking of Matt Keetley he is going to be in an alumni game in Medicine hat on the 3rd of March. Man I remember in some old NHL games he turned into a pretty good backup for Kipper

No Flames fan should ever get overly excited with their goaltending prospects because this team may be historically the worst when it comes to developing starting goaltenders. Gillies has had setbacks and is struggling which is par for the course with a Flames developed goaltender. He could go either way at this point. Parsons seems like a gamer though. He's not a huge guy that plays the angles to block shots, rather he's a really athletic guy that moves well side to side with outstanding reflexes. I think his skills can translate providing he can stay healthy and continue to improve his game. Time will tell I suppose but I like how the Flames continue drafting goaltenders until one or two of them stick as if they don't pick Parsons last draft their goaltending depth would look pretty depressing with Gillies and nobody.

No kidding. I'll believe we have a legit starter when he takes us three rounds into the post season and follows that up with a Vezina.
Otherwise, I remain unconvinced.

There are currently more than a few quality starting NHL goalies who have yet to convince you.

I'm not talking about for other teams, I'm talking about for us. And as long as I've been alive, the Flames have had two kinds of goalies. Two franchise types who took the team on deep playoff runs, and a whole lotta dog#### in between and after.

Early on the team had Reggie Lemelin and Pat Riggin who were good goalies. Riggin brought the Flames to the semi finals and Lemelin was an all star.

The Devils have only ever had two franchise type goalies... they're hoping Schneider can be their third.
Have the Thrashers/Jets ever really had a franchise goalie? How about the Jets/Coyotes?
Whalers/Hurricanes? Sure, they won a cup, but a franchise goalie has sustained greatness.
There are other teams. We can be pleased to have had a two franchise goalies. In fact, maybe having a franchise goalie hampers your ability to find his successor and you struggle in that position until you find a suitable replacement?

All I'm saying is, I will not be convinced of the legitimacy of any goalie playing for this team until I see a certain level of play carry across different seasons.
Btw who's NJ's third franchise goalie? Marty, Schneider and who?

This is what I don't get: Your insistence that a Flames goalie must be an elite-level, franchise player in order to be considered "legitimate" appears ridiculous in the very realistic event that the Flames build a championship calibre team with no better than above average goaltending. There are plenty of goalies who play in the SC Finals and never earn a Vezina nomination, and there are goalies who are perennial Vezina candidates who will never see the third round in the playoffs.
In short, legitimate goaltending is not such a tall order, and even better-than-average goaltending could end up carrying this team a long way.
