Now it's all about hoping Janko turns into an NHL player. Hopefully the Flames can get 214+ meaningful games out of him.

It will be the same objection about Smith. Dvorak, picked 4 spots later, is contributing offensively in the NHL this season, but unlike Jankowski, there aren't exactly a line of guys picked after Smith who are tearing up the league or even forcing their way into NHL lineups.

I don't think Smith was a bad pick, really. He's the kind of guy you take a flyer on in the second round because if he can put his size together with a different NHL calibre skill, he's easily a professional. Kanzig by comparison is probably a much bigger reach.

Janko with Pearson and Maatta picked basically immediately afterwards looks a heck of a lot different. Especially because of the importance of the 1st rounder.
Not to mention they originally had the #12 pick but traded down to #21 in order to get the 2nd rounder they used (arguably wasted) on Sieloff.

Not that there are a bunch of game breakers between #12 and #21, but of the 9 players picked in that range 8 of them look like a good bet to hit 200+ NHL games in the near future.

Then again, Jankowski could still end up having a much better career than the other guys who he has CONSTANTLY been compared with since that draft, and finally force people to put a sock in it.

Here's a trade thought. Would you pull the trigger

To Colorado

Lance Bouma (for cap reasons)
Mark Jankowski
Oliver Kylington or Rasmus Andersson (Avs choice)
2017 1st round pick

To Calgary

Gabriel Landeskog

The darryl sutter 'Recoup the second round pick by trading out of the range of impact first round picks' strategy.

Olli Maatta by the way is exactly what the Flames need, right now.

Oh well, hoping Janko gets some icetime towards the end of the season.

Glad the Flames are buyers. I hate when teams continually look at the future and forget the present. They don't need to sell the farm (although the farm is pretty weak) but anything to get better this year is fine by me.

Switch Bouma with Brodie and that's where the conversation starts

Seriously? If that's all it took he'd be traded by now. 2 long shot prospects, a cap dump and the 15-20th overall pick? Yeah I'd pull that trigger in a heart beat.

let's look at it like this, a top pairing young Dman, a possible future top 4 Dman, a young promising 6'4 center with playmaking ability, and a first round pick for a guy who is producing at a far worse rate than our 19 year old rookie. I give that a big no ####ing thank you

I'm not saying I would do the trade, I said that's where the hypothetical conversation starts, and the negotiations go from there. The Avs aren't going to trade that kid for scraps

Sorry, but you took it from a reach in one direction to the opposite extreme. That package + Brodie is a ridiculous over-payment.

Sorry, but that's how negotiations often work. You don't start with what you hope to get

You have no idea where negotiations would start, and that package you suggested was a ridiculous over-payment.

I didn't suggest it as a package, read again

Again, ridiculous. If that isn't what you meant, you can edit your post. It's certainly what you implied.

Some seriously over rate Kylinton and Anderssen. Both are long shot and likely will never play in the NHL. Jankowski is a nice piece but he's not going to be the main piece in getting Landeskog.

Lol. What a ridiculous thing to get uppity about. I understood it the other way... That Colorado wouldn't even be listening unless the first piece was someone way better than Bouma, such as Brodie. But hey, no need to stop losing your mind.

I don't know I think you're grossly over reading Landeskog. I don't think he's worth half of what you're suggesting. The guys a 50 point player and comes with pretty big contract. This is a complementary player you're talking about, not a star that is going to change this team dramatically.
