Edmonton has also been rebuilding for literally a decade.......with multiple 1st overall picks as well. It's allowed them to finally get some talent on the roster from the farm, but most if those players we'd be critiquing as not good enough if it wasn't for them hitting the jackpot on McDavid. He covers up a lot of holes. Replace McDavid with any other draft pick from that year, and the Oilers would be sitting well behind the Flames in the standings, and no one would be trying to cite them as a model for young player development. And I don't say that to try and excuse away the Oilers performance, they have McDavid, he is a part of the team, but it's incredibly frustrating to have impatient posters on here try to use them as an example of what our management is doing wrong, given the only reason they are succeeding is after a decade of being the worst run franchise in sport they finally won the lottery and drafted the first generational talent since Crosby.
Our management team has done far more with a lot less in a lot less time than the Oilers have in the past 20 years.

Friedman on 960 says he wouldn't be surprised if Treliving isn't done yet/ Thinks Treliving is looking for a forward and is also sniffing around goalies.

Don't disagree with this, but McDavid is not the only reason. As we well know, you're nothing without competent goaltending. Edmonton finally has it.

I PROMISED MESS I WOULDN'T DO THIS
Something based around Bennett for Landeskog might fit the 'jam' criteria and actually get Sakic listening.
Bennett has plenty of jam, so when you subtract Sam's jam & add Landeskog's jam you end up with a minimal net jam injection.
Bennett, who is 4 years younger & playing mainly on the 3rd line, has only 1 less goal than the Avs' captain and go-to-guy. Currently that Landeskog for Bennett trade looks pretty lateral, but longterm I fear we might live to regret parting with a 20-year-old Sam Bennett. Food for thought...
