Lol before I read your post I thought he meant Matt Dumba....

Sounds like ARI has traded Michael Stone to CGY.

Flames have now added two defensemen in the past few days. Obviously one of our own is headed out of town. What if Treliving makes a big splash and makes an actual hockey trade at the deadline, and moves an under-performing TJ Brodie for Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog? Duchene has the speed and skill to play on the top line, although Gaudreau would have to switch wings. Landeskog has the all around game every team craves, but is missing that elite talent in any one area. Treliving now has some flexibility on the blueline, and then still has a pipeline that is heavy on blueline talent.

I have a dream of the Flames grabbing Grigorenko from the avs. D men to Col since that is what they cover the most.

Dear god no. Brodie on his game is still our best and most dynamic D. If we ever go all the way it will be on the back of our big3D

Losing Brodie is too much of a downgrade for our already-struggling defence.
Who replaces his minutes and quality? Bartkowski? Stone? Wideman?! I really hope Brodie's name is not on the table.
I'd love Landeskog or Duchene but the cost to acquire either of them might outweigh the actual quality of the return. They've both struggled this season – at least as much as Brodie has – but their market value would be insanely high because they're both household names around the league. I think we'd have to part with someone like Bennett – who I'm not willing to give up on but whose name would probably get Sakic's attention in trade talks. And even then I believe Bennett could be a better player 2, 3, 4 years down the line than Duchene or Landeskog, so at best the move is a roll of the dice.
If Treliving can get something done using picks and/or prospects (who aren't named Jankowksi) then I'm all for it. This draft looks pants and our team is so full of youngish talent that it can afford sacrificing a tiny slice of the future in order to get over the hump and into the playoffs.

Duchene has played plenty of time on the right side. No need to move Gaudreau. Dutchy is a favorite of mine, and I know it's unlikely that we acquire him, but man I still love to dream about it.

Nah. Steer clear of Russians unless you have a strong veteran Russian presence already. Too risky that they dislike the coach and take their ball and go home. Not a good gamble IMO

There has to be a good way to consistently develop Russians. Tampa does it. Washington too, though for obvious reasons.
There are only 38 Russians in the NHL - that's absurd. Much like we should be drafting a goalie every draft, we should also be drafting one Russian every year. They seem like budgies - better when they have a friend.
Any skilled Russian taken in the middle of the draft would have been drafted two rounds higher if he has a different passport. Take the risk.

Looks like Doan might need to expand his list:
David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod
Chayka said nothing close (right now) on Hanzal & Doan. Chayka said he's had discussions with Doan, but "nothing where he's wanted to move"

It'll be interesting to see if there's any real interest for either Doan or Iginla.
They're both basically 40 years-old. Neither one is putting up great stats this season, and neither of them has a history of great playoff success either. Their salaries aren't exactly bargains either.
If you're a true contender, does either one of them really make you better?

Wonder if the Flames eat 50% of the Wideman deal if they could pull in a 5th rounder for him?

I think the Sharks could really use Iginla

I know it is a touchy subject for some around here but Iginla for a 4th rounder would be a great add for Calgary at the deadline if you ask me. I can see the Flames targeting a forward and take a look at a goalie before the deadline. I don't see any more Dmen trades unless the Flames are sending out Wideman and/or Engellend
