I'm satisfied the team is in the playoff picture, but there's no way they're a Cup contender in the next couple of years. Wait until the 2019 off-season to go big-name hunting. Hopefully one of the goaltending prospects will work out in the meantime. Until then, roll with stop-gaps and hope for the best.

Size and skill should be the focus from here on out.
Any players they acquire from now on should have both.

Treliving should find a buyer for Brower, Wideman, Chaisson, Bouma. Useless. Take anything reasonable in return just to rid them from the Flames.

What?
I disagree.

Treliving inherited the entire core of this team. The only key piece he has brought in is Hamilton.
The team needs a shake up.

I agree with SG. Bouma is nearly useless.
Brouwer has been very disappointing. I was never a fan of his signing. How many times has he stuck up for Gaudreau, or anyone one that isn't #1? He plays like a jaded vet on the verge of retirement.

Brouwer has been terrible. That has been Tre's worst move to-date.

He comes exactly as advertised. No one on this team sticks up for Gaudreau on any consistent basis, I'd guess there are reasons for that that aren't Browers fault.
I'd be indifferent to Brouwer staying or going, but he's the type of player you need to round out rosters and build winner. Problem is people have a tough time this day and age wrapping their heads around the second tier players that end up being acquired while on UFA signed contracts, because they will never really be full value signings, but every team that will win needs a few of them in the right spots.
When teams aren't performing well, they are the first ones to rise to the top to critique because they often won't becreturning amazing stats per dollar. Fans immediately will point to the fact they aren't being difference makers. But they weren't actually brought in to be that, they were brought in to complimentary pieces to the difference makers. If Johnny and Mony were flying right now and Brouwer had the same numbers and play we'd all be talking about him being exactly what we needed. But Johnny, Mont or even Bennett aren't pulling their weight.
Frolik is the classic counter example. Same type of signing, many on here questioning it last year. This year, Backlund and Thatchuk are doing their part, and he looks like the perfect cherry on top, well worth the money.
Johnny and Mony or Bennett need a Brouwer type to round them out when they start being the players they are supposed to be. I don't really care if it's Brower or someone else, but we already have Brouwer, not sure BT needs to add another item to his to do list.

Brouwer has an A and that's enough evidence that he was brought in at least partly for so-called leadership qualities. I expect more from him than just standing in front of the net and being okay on the boards.
Gio has let me down in this respect as well. Whatshisface rammed into Elliott yesterday, and our captain did nothing.

The way Ryan Miller played vs Cgy this year you have to wonder if he'll be on the short list of possible #Flames goalie signings this summer
I'm going to be sick

As a stopgap for a couple of years I could live with it. If the Flames had had Miller this season they'd be in a playoff spot now.

Ok. They'd be in a real playoff spot and in much better shape than they are with Elliott.

i'm sick and tired of the "stop gaps" for our prospects that haven't made the jump.
We need at least 2 of:
Gillies
Jankowski
Porier
Klimchuk
Wotherspoon
Kulak
Andersson
Kylington
Shinkaruk
McDonald
Kanzig
Smith
to actually force their way onto the team and take a full time spot away from some complacent veterans.
If they can't do it then let's move on for solutions that are more than simply "stop gaps".

I completely agree. I just feel for some reason people are trying to exaggerate how badly this season has gone for this team, given I actually think we are exactly where many had predicted even hoped we would be.

Overall I think the team has been very solid. Their possession numbers are esxcellent, the PP is improved and their PDO is lousy. They just dont get many breaks.
The goaltending and the 4-6 D have been pretty awful. On the bright side, they will likely all be gone next year, so there's a chance for improvement.
I'm a bit frustrated Stockton has provided absolutely no relief. The Flames are getting nothing out of their farm team and I think that should be a cause for concern.
