The reffing has made me less then enthusiastic about watching hockey and Flames hockey over all. Whether its intentional or just a matter of incompetence it makes me feel like the NHL is somewhat crooked, especially when combined with watching the Oilers getting a highly favorable schedule and McDavid diving all over the ice and getting benefits from it.
I've said in the past that I've been losing interest in NHL hockey, but this just stacks on top of it.
I know most of my friends have gone away from making the time to watch hockey and only do it when its convenient. When I talk to them about it the common answers are "Its terrible anyways", "Its too soft of a game, like basketball on ice" and my favorite "I don't care".
Right now to be honest, I'm more looking forward to the NFL combines and the start of CFL training camp them I am hockey.

Boo hoo, everyone always crying about the oilers schedule. Every year a couple of teams seem to get it easier. I'm sure in the last 5 years flames had an easy one. Nobody complained about that, I'm sure.
Will agree with mcdavid getting questionable calls in his favor.

Remember the Gaudreau vs. McDavid penalty shot sequence near the start of the season? I'd love a league explanation on that one.

You could argue that, but you would have to show the data game by game. Where are your data?
‘If we had better data it might possibly support my point of view’ is not an argument, it's a wish.

Wouldn't surprise me if they get a lot of teams that haven't been able to practice for a week.

So let's take a long term approach to this. Suppose everything we think is happening is confirmed and the officials have been unfairly penalizing the Flames. What is the recourse for the fans who spent all that money and time on what would ultimately amount to being a fixed sport? The NHL would have taken our money knowing full well that there was no way the Flames could compete on an even playing field.

Stop watching a watered down, soft sport that's past it's hey day with this officiating incident being the final straw?
More reasonably, just follow the Flames like we always do and be upset that we're likely fighting against more than just the other team, and hope that by the time we've matured a couple more years with a hopefully elite coach brought in, this incident has fallen from the refs memory after paying our dues.

This episode really emphasizes a point made early in this thread: the issue is not whether the penalties called on the Flames are real infractions - refs can easily call (and justify) many more penalties in every game than they actually do. Remember the move to cut down clutching and grabbing after the 2004-5 lockout. The issue is whether they apply the same standards in assessing the Flames' opponents in the same game. The statistics and that Edmonton game would suggest they don't.

I wouldn't spend a dime on seasons tickets until this is properly addressed and put to bed. Who wants to spend money when they is chance it's fixed?

Yeah, as much as I think this needed to be done, I'm hoping for the best but not expecting anything.
You ever remember that kid that always goes whining to the teacher? Thats us now.
The teacher listens respectfully and nods politely, but we all know that as soon as that kid goes back to his desk the teacher is going to either completely forget that this thing happened or actively make sure this kid's life sucks.

Did anyone ever bring this sequence up with Kerry Fraser, if so what was his response?

If the student has legitimate complaints then that teacher sucks.

I'm not disagreeing, but only a petty, insecure teacher would do that, which tells you all you need to know about the state of officiating in the NHL today.

I'm glad the Flames have brought it up with the league but I don't know if the league has the power to make any changes as long as the officials stick together. This punishment will continue until some of the more professional officials fragment.

I'm just going along with the metaphor. I think we could both agree that a teacher ignoring a students valid complaints is probably a pretty crappy , petty teacher.
Thus, the NHL would be crappy and petty to ignore complaints that are valid in a similar way. That McDavid Gaudreau sequence... Like come on.
It'd be like if both Johnny and Connor gave the same answers to the same question on the same test and Johnny failed while Connor was given a gold star and a happy ending.

Absolutely nothing. The NHL isn't selling hockey, they're selling entertainment in the form of hockey. You pay to be entertained, not to watch an even fight.
Having said that, I don't buy that the NHL is rigged and I don't buy the Wideman effect. I think this team is terribly undisciplined. Sure they get a weak call against them but so does everyone. All 30 fan bases think the refs are out to get them. If the NHL was fixed I think that would get out pretty quickly in this day and age. Maybe I'm wrong and it is fixed, but from what I gather I don't believe it to be true.
