People will hate this but I am all for trading Gaudreau he is not the player to build a team around. I would Much rather being spending that salary on a 2 way Center.

Why It's true he makes a good complimentary piece but he is not a centerpiece you build a core around. He has shown this year he cannot take charge and lead the team.

I'm not necessarily arguing with you, though I do think it will be hard to get a true #1 center back in any trade so I think we'd risk acquiring a 2nd line center plus pieces. I wouldn't be in favour of that.
Nothing wrong with the suggestion though, the more talking points on the forum the better.

Wow people in this forum really have recency bias. Watch next year when Gaudreau bounces back at ppg and Tkachuk is on his sophomore slump the same ppl saying to trade Gaudreau right now will be saying to trade Tkachuk.

^ arguing against the masses based on what you infer posters are saying is the absolute worst part about this message board.
If you have a counter position to a poster, counter them, don't just verbally piss into the wind about how smart you are.
I'm convinced that just about every poster arguing in that kind of vacuum is a moron.
Think a poster is goofy for their opinion? Quote them and challenge their position.

Barkov is good as Johnny and Reilly Smith is a young players who has hit 50 points and the 1st round pick is good.
You can add from Panthers side but that is close in value.
Johnny Hockey
Sam Bennett
For
Aleksander Barkov
Reilly Smith
Alex Petrovic
If this is the offer, than you pull it.

Some people in this thread need to put down the crack pipe, push away from the keyboard and take a breath. These trade proposals are Eckland-esque
Where's ThisPostIsTerrible when you need him/her?

Not that I am advocating this, but in abstract terms, Barkov is the most valuable player in the deal.

So we get older and give up the better players for Petrovic?

As a big center, sure, but points wise Johnny and Sam are both better. I guess if you're looking for size to make up for the points you may lose, then I guess you do it?

Sam is in no way better points wise than Barkov...take off your rose coloured glasses. Barkov is a freaking stud!

I would trade Gaudreau for Barkov in less than a heartbeat. Barkov is awesome. If the cost is Bennett, does it really matter when you can pay the trio of Barkov, Monahan and Backlund less than $18M?

I'm sorry, but your trade proposal is "sub-par". I will see my way out now.
The lack of patience with Sam Bennett is getting absolutely ridiculous. Where would we be if we traded Backlund at a similar stage of development?

Right in the thick of a playoff race and there's proposals to trade Johnny, Backlund, Bennett, Giordano who are suppose to be part of our core. We are a weird bunch.
Johnny is still an elite talent. Bennett has the ability to put up Barkov type numbers. Backlund with a Selke type year but we are trading him because he will ask for too much once his contract expires (good problem to have)

While we're on the topic of trading Gaudreau, if I'm the Flames management I would be seriously considering that this offseason.
Gaudreau's career is eerily resembling Phaneuf's to a tee so far:
-both dominated in their respective league's after being drafted by the Flames including dominating performances at the WJ's
-2 of the (deservedly so) biggest hyped prospects in Flames history
-both spectacular in their rookie years and nominated for the Calder
-continued great play in the first few years leading to almost identical 6 year contract extensions and virtually everyone thinking they will be Flames franchise players for a long time going forward
-decline in play the 1st year after the contract extension with both visible differences on the ice (less speed for Johnny) and whispers of off-ice issues (Johnny having a lot more in common with Johnny Football than just the name)
While it's easy to say this is just an off year for Johnny and the blame could be partly on GG2.0 and the contract burden, i believe there is a very real chance he continues to drop off/flatten out like Dion and still be a decent player but not the superstar we thought/hoped he'd be.
This summer the market would still be very high for Johnny, especially for an eastern American team where he would also help sell a lot of tickets and the Flames would be wise to at least explore it as if he doesn't bounce back next year his trade value wouldn't be nearly as high.
For example if a team like Philly (Provorov/Konecny) or the Islanders (signed Tavares) was willing to overpay the Flames should be all over it.
