Do not want Kane on the Flames at any cost.

So no, 3/4 way through a season, we don't have an elite prospect that's in the system that isn't already on the team.
Regardless of that, Treliving said the same thing most GMs say. That they're not moving their "top" prospects for a quick fix at the trade deadline. With the expansion draft and the current market, the's very likely going to be few trades of significance anyway.
You seemed to me like one of a couple people who took an innocent sound bite and used it as an opportunity to be negative / glum.

The tweet said Treliving not trading top prospects.
The post you quoted countered that he would not object to trading one of our top prospects for a long term player.
I agree with the poster. I wouldn't consider any of our top prospects untouchable.

The Sabres don't want to trade Kane right now. He has 12 points over his last 13 games and is finally starting to live up to some of his potential. Tim Murray even came and and said as much.
Won't argue that his value in lower than when they acquired him, but he's still useful. No where near Wideman level of bad

This reeks of Murray trying to sell while the asset is hot. One year to ufa and all the baggage, trade him while he's playing well.

I would have interest there but I assume the Sabres would want a fairly big + to make that deal

Insider trading:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider-...deskog~1059176
Sens won't be trading for Duchene or Landeskog unless price drops.
Won't move Ceci and a top prospect like White
Lot of GMs think Sakic will wait until the offseason to move Duchene
Grigorenko and Weircoch's names are out there as pieces Sakic might move before the deadline
Some teams (and the Habs could be one of them) actually think Duchene plays better as a winger than a center
Canes in need of front line center like Duchene, but LeBrun thinks the Canes want a young center that is under control for more than 2 years so Duchene isn't their guy
Despite the Blues recent playoff push, Shattenkirk remains on the market
Asking price is high pick and prospect, and maybe a 3rd piece if the pick it too late or prospect isn't good enough for the Blues
GMs are going to discuss offside video review at their next meetings

I've been a fan of grigorenko since his draft year. I wonder what the asking price is on him? Might be a good 3rd liner. May also be like Bennett and a better winger than a center right now.

Sort of out there proposal but I think it's a very good fit for all players and teams involved:
To Montreal:
Giordano
Backlund
To Calgary:
Brendan Gallagher
Mikhail Sergachev
David Desharnais (cap dump)
The Logic:
Montreal is on the very cusp of being an elite team. Their biggest holes are a partner for Weber and a #2 Center to take the heat off of Galchenyuk. Montreal isn't worried about Giordano's big cap hit because the future is now, and they need to win while Price is still under contract and still elite. Giordano-Weber would be an elite pairing for the next several years and Backlund fills a huge need.
Calgary is (sort-of) stumbling through a rebuild and needs to decide what it wants to be. Is the window open now or will it be a few years. I'm of the opinion that the window does not open until Monahan and Bennett get better, and by that time, Backlund will probably need a big extension and Giordano might not be a dominant #1 anymore. Gallagher, despite being tiny, is one of the league's premier net front forwards and is on a great contract for the next 5 years. I think he'd be a fantastic compliment to Gaudreau. Sergachev is one of the best defensive prospects out there and should end up being a good #3 and probably better. He projects very similarly to Giordano, a two way defenseman that has elite offensive skills. DD is a cap dump, expiring this year. The Habs may prefer to send Plekanec instead, since he expires next year. Either way I think the cap is manageable.
The Flames would rebuild around Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Tkachuk, Sergachev, Hamilton and Brodie. As well, this move would open up a protection slot for another d-man should Brad be looking to acquire one.
Next year's lineup:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Frolik
Tkachuk-Bennett-Gallagher
bottom 6: Ferland, Bouma, Brouwer, Stajan, Hathaway, Chiasson, Hamilton, Versteeg (if re-signed), DD (if re-signed), Jankowski, UFAs
Brodie-Hamilton
hopes and prayers, Kulak, Andersson, Sergachev
goalies
The Flames would have about 21 million in cap space to fill the holes on defense/goalie with UFA's or trades (Fleury maybe?) which should be enough to bridge the team until 2018/19 when I believe the Flames should be truly competitive.
It would suck to lose the captain and this year's best forward but I don't think the Flames have sucked quite enough to ensure future success. One more year of pain will have the Flames set up incredibly well for the future.
Also, for Giordano, it will give him the opportunity to play on a contending team while he is still in the height of his career. He deserves it after toiling in (relative) mediocrity his whole career.
What do you think? As far as fit goes, I think it's damn near perfect for both sides, but the value may be off.

Gio>Sergachev
Backlund>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Gallagher
Don't think the value is fair at all
Edit to add: Gio or Backlund alone should get that package or close to it.

I'd take Evander Kane on my team any day. He's big, he can skate, he can score and he's tough. It might not be the popular opinion but I don't think all these guys have to be alter boys.
Kane might actually add a little size and swagger to a team that could use a little more of both.

I also think Kane would be perfect. He's fast, he forechecks, he'll score 20-25 a year (scoring at a 33G+ pace this year), he's gritty and people hate him.
You don't have to be what the media considers a "good person" to win a stanley cup.
Kane, on the ice, fits exactly what we need.

A lot of football fans will remember the story about jerry Jones and Randy Moss. Jones really wanted to draft him because he recognized what a talent Moss would be but he was talked out of it. People around Jones felt that Moss had too many "character issues" and the Cowboys passed on him. Moss went on to have a Hall of Fame career, and Jerry Jones regretted his choice forever.
If you have a strong enough organization with good leadership you can bring these types of players into the fold. Look at what Bellichick does with the Patriots, he always take chances on these guys.

Leadership starts in the front office and with Burke at the top and it trickling down to Conroy, Giordano, Brouwer.... etc. Yes, I think the Flames have strong leadership within the organization.
That said, I am not interested in Kane at his price tag.

I wouldn't do the original proposal but if Montreal offered Gallagher and Sergachev for Backlund I would pull the trigger on that so fast it isn't funny. Gallagher is a RW who can score, play physical, and drives the opposition nuts and no, Backlund is not 20x better than him. There might be a few growing pains but Sergachev could step into that 3-4 role with Brodie next season and has all the makings of a top 2 D man in the future. I love Backlund and he is having a great year but I would trade him in a second for those two players.
