Ditto Voracek. However, Provorov and Gostisbehere are money. Anyway, nice pushback from the Flames. They just about bent and didn't break in the 3rd.

Both are bipolar and can drive a guy to drink. Which reminds me, it's time to grab a cold one

Great seeing the Philly fans were also in disbelief about the spear. Stupid play deserving 2 but should have been a 2 for diving.

Wideman's lack of coverage just compounded the original giveaway. I'm not defending him, but if you're going to pick a spot to chew at, that's not a good one to use.

Got to give credit, where credit is due. Elliott stole us that one.

It just sucks that we are reduced to hoping and wishing when we pass on players that are now producing at 1st line rates, instead we get mystery boxes. Tkachuk had 107P in 57GP then 20G 20A in 18!!! Playoff games last year. He put up more playoff goals than Dvorak or Marner, two players who put up 2PPG in the 2 previous seasons and we pass on him, the best forward, a positional need, a real exciting player, an NHL greats son etc. Sounds like the same descriptions as Nylander
It's...it's just so beautiful.

The rule on spearing doesn't say anything about "intent to injure". If the point of the stick makes contact in a stabbing motion, it's 5 and a game. Period. There's no minor, there's really only not calling it as an alternative.

Now, should Cousins have been penalized for embellishment? I think so. Apparently the refs didn't.

It was a dumb play all round. Wideman effect? Suspect that would have been called on anyone as it happened two feet from a liney.

Does anyone have a clip of this Chiasson "spear"? Couldn't watch the game tonight. Sounds like a really weak call by what even Flyers fans are saying.

Well sir I would just have to connect the dots on this one.

Brodie played better and Kulak started the game dhakey but looked like he regained his composure.

I'll take door number two Monty.

I was at the game and couldn't see this spear! They didn't even show a replay on the jumbotron.

You should tell the refs what the rule is then because the guys in the Det-Minny game kind of missed it on the Nyquist double minor for high sticking. Little taps like that are called slashing all the time. BS call tonight.

Just got home from my first game of the season

Ok so first the gifs:

and

Ok so some things I thought during the game:

Man Johnny looks freaking lost out there so often. I dunno if it's Greg's system or if Johnny is just having an off year.

Eat a lot of very unpleasant things Ref. How is that tap, which happens a thousand times every game (and happened 8 times in the continuation of this game) a 5 min and a game? Wideman Effect™ indeed!

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

Holy crap I love Tkachuk. At an almost Pierre Maquire level. This kid is amazing, and definitely the real deal. And a freaking rookie. Plays like a vet.

My god this Pocket Dawg is the bees Knees.

ATTA BOY FERLY!!! FEED EM PROPER!!!!

I gotta get to more games.

Peformances like that from moose will win us a lot of games. If we could just have an extended stretch of exactly what he brought tonight. Noticed that he did well staying square to the shooter and not going down too quickly. I think he's making adjustments and it's great to see.

My greatest concern is that the 3M line is back to carrying the team offensively and that cannot remain the case for long. However, I actually liked Gaudreau a lot as the game progressed and not to say that Monahan didn't have his chances. Johnny made simpler (smart) plays with the puck rather than trying to do too much at the cost of a break the other way. Sacrificed making pretty risky plays for helping the team preserve the win, and that's important. Still their line is not driving possession and cycling the puck aggressively like 3M was tonight.

One of the best games from Chucky if not the best to date. His honest veteran-like interview in the intermission was just the icing on the cake. He said they needed more time cycling in the offensive zone and he came out in the second and delivered.

I ####ing love Tkachuk.

He does so many things well, it's ridiculous.

On his goal:
  • Face-off win
  • Goes to the front of the net
  • Tips the initial shot
  • Recognizes where the puck bounces to and crashes the crease
  • Buckles down to ensure he gets all of the puck

On his assist:
  • Off a bobbled face-off he rushes the defenceman with the puck forcing a turnover
  • Goes to the quiet area behind the net to receive the pass from Bennett
  • Sucks 2 Flyers in and tries a pass to the slot that gets deflected back towards the point
  • Goes to the front of the net for a point shot
  • Recovers the loose puck
  • Patient with the puck before making a nice rim back to Engelland
  • Anticipates Engelland's dump back behind the net and retrieves the puck
  • Carries the puck towards the point, drawing Voracek in to him and away from Brodie
  • Moves towards the middle in order to feed Brodie in a position to score

We're so lucky to grab him at #6... I can't get over it.
