Terrible coaching, just in case it was missed. Terrible coaching. Uninspired,. unprepared team. Several players simply did not care how they played. If they had a good shift, if they turned over the puck, if they caused a goal against.
I hate the total lack of physical play by the defence and the forwards on this team. That is on Treliving to build a competitive team. He hasn't this team has more flat out blow outs against that I can remember for years. This has become far too repetitive.
We couldn't wait to leave the game. I haven't left early since a game vs CLB in 2003.
The leadership on this team is garbage and that also goes back to Gulutzan because I don't care what is written or said about the players and the coach. The players have little respect for this nugget. Even the players that wear a letter have been MIA far too many games. Honestly your captain and assistants can't have these kind of games. They have as many good games as they do flat ones. That is not quality leadership.

The coaches didn't tell the players to show up uninspired. Maybe too much beach time over the break.
How is it the coaches fault the team didn't show up tonight?

How is it not? Main leadership comes from the coaching staff, your secondary leadership better be coming from your Captain, Assistant Captains, and Vets.

Here's the average time on ice for the SEASON:
Dougie Hamilton - 19:36
Dennis Wideman - 20:57
That is truly all you need to know about Greg Gilbert 2.0.
Also Sam Bennett is not an NHL centre. He may become one someday but for now he should be on the wing for both his and the team's sake.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Janko - Brouwer
looks a lot better top 9 than what GG 2.0 rolls with every night.
Puts one of the young guy with 2 vets on each line. IMO Janko is a better C than Bennett right now and Bennett is a better winger than Chiasson ever was or ever will be. If Tkachuk with Johnny/Monny doesn't work you can switch up with Bennett/Brouwer.

They were okay in the first period. But 5 minutes into the second they folded like that team that suffered that embarrassing 4 game losing streak. That's concerning.
If they don't show up next game they've definitely told the GM to sell.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. The heart and drive has to come from within each of the players. Blaming the coach is a cop out!

That's literally their only job. I don't remember you being so understanding under Hearlty.

Its really too bad that the Flames can't make the team wear their mouldy practice jersey's for the next game. First of all because you should have to earn the right to wear the jersey. Second its going to take a week and multiple washings with lye soap to get the stank of this game out.

Thats their number one job!! In fact you can argue thats their only job. If you can't drive them to perform you fail.
In any other job you would get canned for not getting your team to perform. This job is unique as players and coaches have pertection via the way their contracts are written that they can't just get the boot by under performing.

So if blaming the coach is a cop out, why did management fire the reigning Adams winner early then?
Give me a break. Gulutzan can't get it done. The Flames aren't this bad on paper.
I'm with Bingo on the 3M line being the goat. Time to start putting players in a position to succeed.
Brodie should play with Gio. Hamilton should play with Jokipakka/Kulak. Dennis Wideman can't be led to water and forced to drink. The coach has to get him out of the top 4. None of these things involve heart or drive.

I don't know. When the Flames made the playoffs a Western Conference team needed 97 points. This year it looks like 90pts does it easily this year. That year over 150 goalies had a .900 Sv% or higher. This year only 41 goalies do. It was arguably a harder season for the Flames and since they've made the following improvements:
1) Hamilton over Russell
2) Tkachuk over Byron
3) Brouwer over Raymond
4) Kris Versteeg over Colborne
5) Frolik over Jones
6) Bennett over Jooris
7) Jokipakka over Smid
Even though they lost Hudler, Ramo, Hiller, and Schlemko, I think all in all they have a better team on paper right now, playing in a weaker West.
I don't think Trelivings roster decisions since then has had as much of an impact as coaching.

The function of the coach is to give the players the tools to do their jobs and remove any outside distractions that would impeed their efforts.

Whether you consider showing up ready to play the coaches' responsibility or the players', I don't know how anyone can take issue with that aspect given the way the team played the first period.
The problem was the second period where the team couldn't generate anything consistently, couldn't capitalize on the few chances they got, and couldn't keep the puck out of their own net.

I didn't think I'd see a worse game in person this year than the Carolina game in October.
Wow was I wrong!
I mean, if the tickets weren't $6 (USD) I'd be even angrier. But even still, that was just sad.

It's a cop out to say the coach didn't motivate his players. The players need to motivate themselves.
The system Hartley gave the team wasn't enough to get them to the next level.

Yes. What I said would include giving them the correct tools which I believe follows under the category of getting them up and ready to play.
They weren't ready to play which is a massive fail on all accounts. I don't car about losimg by a goal or 2 with a terrific effort but this is just a #### ahow.

Ugh thanks for reminding me.... I watched both games live too.
Pretty sure my face is still scrunched up from fury right now, but I'm too drunk to tell anymore.

I would consider showing up ready a full 60 minute effort. If you have just a good first period effort you only came in with the mindset of being ready for a period not a game.
