Fuzz - "He didn't speak to the media before the election, either."
Did I even mention if any of those things were bad in objective terms, including Trump. No.
I framed it in a way that they both use media to distract the public and reduce the negative pushback from any of their actions. Even in a landslide win of an election you will always have a good portion of the population that doesn't like what their leader is doing.
The point I was making these two individuals are very good at moving the public conversation along and away from things they dont want talked about by using the media to their advantage.
In the context of your argument, you're not wrong.
I think you're ignoring some harsh realities of running a major nation state, in the 21st century. Specifically, continuing deals with the Saudis. More than any country on earth, Saudi Arabia is capable of tanking the global economy on a dime. Nobody has an answer to that right now. Russia doesn't, Obama didn't, Bush didn't, Clinton didn't, Trump sure doesn't, Harper didn't, Martin, Chretien etc etc etc.
So I accept that while Justin Trudeau would probably like nothing better than to see us stop selling arms to the Saudis, I'm sure at least part of him is concerned about the economic engine of his country should Saudis decide to crater the price of oil again.
Electoral reform waffling? That's a bad one. That one took me from 'will probably definitely vote Liberal next election' to an undecided. I've never voted for the same party in back to back federal elections - in fact, the only person I've ever voted for multiple times is Nenshi.
I guess my point is just there's your run of the mill elected official lying, and then there's what we have been watching the last three weeks.

There is also a difference between lying and changing your mind once more information is obtained.
Don't get me wrong, I think politicians should be accountable when they over-promise and fail to deliver, but the intent isn't always to mislead. Harper did the same thing (ran on a platform of electoral reform) and failed as well, and probably deserved the same benefit of the doubt. (And in fact, DID receive it from the people who continued to support him).
Trump just outright lies about things, and things that aren't always even important, like the inauguration attendance numbers. Like seriously, DC is a very Democratic city and there are legitimate reasons why his inauguration attendance numbers would be low, but instead he has to just claim they were the biggest ever.

Wow, talking about not coming down and lecturing the President on how his country should be governed is skirting a line.

Agreed, but I think nearly every single answer from Trudeau has been like that. He's mentioned Canada being an example to follow on multiple questions (trade, border security, womens issues, immigration, etc.). So far I've been pleasantly surprised by his positioning and ability to answer vis-a-vis Trump. Trudeau looks like a leader, IMO.
