DNA evidence is chilling.
One can only hope suffering was minimal
So very sad right now.

This is correct, the media tweeting and filing reports from the trial have all signed undertakings with the Court in advance, where they agree to certain things such as not recording the trial proceedings electronically, keeping devices quiet and things like that.

I go to court a lot through work and have followed the case either in person from time to time in the overflow room or through social media (kudos to all the reporters that have worked on this, they have handled it very professionally).

His own family members & neighbor testifying really got things going even before this damaging evidence was presented, sister said that in December of 2013 out of nowhere during the holidays he's talking about Alvin Linkness and how he got ripped off; his mom said she loved him (Garland) but he seemed to be angry, Dad I believe called him a loner, neighbor testifies how he saw more smoke & fire than normal that day, also saw light on in greenhouse in the middle of the night which was unusual.

I agree with you guys, CPS & RCMP did a great job investigating this and Crown has done a great job of hinting at what happened during opening statement (i.e. the DNA found on hooks) and has strategically rolled out the witnesses.

Very sad case, the mention of the victims names & the accused (kind of like the murdered U of C students a few years back) for the rest of our lives will always be a chilling reminder of this unimaginable crime.

Testimony today so far all surrounding blood spray patterns in the Liknes home. This testimony seems a bit out of sequence to me as I would have thought it would have been part of the earlier stuff. I suppose they are referencing DNA still though.

Just seems a bit out of sequence to me as everything else has seemed to flow in a near perfect order.

Sounds like he bludgeoned them with the dumbbell found in the garage. Horrible.

Well from my untrained opinion it sounds like it was pretty quick, at least that's what I've convinced myself.

It does, but that doesn't match up with the theory of a well-planned attack, which is what a lot of the evidence suggests. I'm not sure how the prosecution will reconcile all of his supposed planning and searches on killing in advance to then suggest he grabbed a dumbell found in the house to kill.

Hard to script the home invasion aspect, planning probably revolved around clean up and disposal.

Garland probably panicked when he discovered that the little boy was there, and I bet the grandparents fought back even harder trying to protect him (Garland was probably expecting it to be easy)

I dunno, it doesn't sound like there was much of a struggle to me. There seemed to be a lot of blood on each bed, which would seem to me that they were in one spot rather that fighting.

This tweet would tend to agree with you...

Arns' report findings include the LIkneses being hit when on the floor beside the beds, then dragged down the hall and stairs. #Garland

It seems odd that the crown is alleging that he killed them on the farm. With so much blood found in the house, why are they so sure he didn't kill them there and then bring their bodies to the farm? It makes me dread future evidence/testimony. They must have evidence or reason to believe that one or more of them was alive on the farm at some point.

Just saw this pop up, so I'm not sure what to think, I just hope it was over quick.

Court hears Alvin suffered a minimum of four blows in at least three places in the Liknes home #Garland

Were they? I don't remember that. I thought they were killed at their house and disposed of on the farm. I feel like it would be way too hard to transport 3 captive people in the bed of your truck, it seems like it would be a risky move.

The Crown alleges that Garland took Alvin and Kathy Liknes and Nathan O’Brien from their home in Parkhill on June 29, 2014.
They say he killed them on his parents’ farm near Airdrie.

I assumed that was because they can place him and the victims at the farm, but maybe not conclusively prove he was at their home? Like the evidence for that seems circumstantial.

But then when I read about them wearing diapers and things like that, it does make me wonder if he didn't torture them and such before killing them. Just horrific all around.

Yeah I remember the ME (I think) saying it was possible they were alive when they were taken from the home but couldn't be sure one way or the other.
