Sounds like shots fired with no injuries, RCMP are negotiating with a suspect.

UPDATE: It appears the earlier incident reported in Pincher Creek, Alberta is a stand-off involving a man in a home.

No idea if this is related, but I've always figured Pincher Creek and the surrounding area is a hotbed for marijuana activity. I know for a fact that there are numerous grow ops in the area.

Schools, pools and buses shut down and police telling the public to not come into the city? Seems pretty serious? I would have thought something bigger than just one armed man? Edit: I guess the schools were closed because the snow. The first report I read made it sound like it was because of the situation. (And I just pictured the guy from Jersey Shore when I said "situation")

There are reports that shots have been fired in a serious situation unfolding in Pincher Creek.
No injuries have been reported but RCMP are negotiating with a suspect located at a residence, according to a report from the Pincher Creek Echo.
Pincher Creek RCMP and an Emergency Response Team (ERT) unit of the RCMP are on the scene.
A spokesperson for RCMP was offering few details Wednesday morning but confirmed that police are dealing with a “dangerous situation involving a person” and are asking the public to remain clear of the area.
“It’s not involving a school, but there is a school in the vicinity that is taking some safety measures,” said Cpl. Laurel Scott, referring to unconfirmed reports that the incident is near Pincher Creek’s Matthew Halton High School.

An update is expected later today.
From the Herald.

A lot of the BC pot comes into Alberta via the Crowsnest Pass. That area has always been a hotbed for pot. Working at the Shell Watertown plant was an eye opener for me.

Schools were already closed because the town got clobbered by a blizzard. But it looks like the RCMP closed down some community centres because of this.

When I was in grade 11 at Matthew Halton we dealt with an outside incident as well and everything was shut down for hours, and we sat in lockdown pretty much the whole day until they resolved it.

In the end it was some moron threatening our assistant principle because of bad grades.

I think a hotbed puts it mildly. Always amazed me that there were never any incidents. I'm pretty sure the level of the grow ops was fairly sophisticated, and it wasn't that hard to figure out how to get it either.

You always knew who was involved as well judging by the dropouts and their decked out SUVs with tinted windows driving around town.

Plus, there is the murder of my kindergarten teacher and her cop boyfriend that was never solved. The rumors were even crazier.

Just a strange town.

Saw a huge convoy of blacked out suburbans and the SWAT APC headed south on Stoney at 6:30 this morning.

Well, the situation has ended and they have one man in custody:

Looks like they closed the schools down because of this incident, and because of how early in the day it happened, they were able to do so before anybody arrived at school.

That just sounds like a bunch of confused people milling about outside of a school.
