Weird. There is some article about some terrorists from Bowling Green, but no massacre, just some guys trying to sell weapons to Al Qaeda.

They just lied to millions of americans and journalists who cover them by inventing a terrorist attack.
Rand Paul is supposed to be one of the moderate, rational ones. Hopefully after this we can put that one to bed alongside Paul Ryan's hoax-corpse.

Or maybe the fact that various senators and representatives are throwing hissy fits because democrats/progressives are absolutely obliterating their phone lines and voicemail inboxes and showing up at their offices to voice their views and to try to influence those representatives to actually do their jobs and represent their constituents?

Perhaps its that the GOP is now looking to fix the ACA rather than repeal it, because all this "bitching" is forcing their hand to realize that taking healthcare from millions of people is maybe not a good idea.
http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare...o-repairing-it
This isn't just "bitching," this is a lot of bitching backed up with lots of action. This is people getting involved in the democratic process in a whole mountain of different ways. This is the best thing to come out of a Trump presidency. It forced a whole lot of people out of complacency and apathy.
|
But... but... but... the Democrats were completely destroyed in the last election. Didn't you hear that?
Politics is all about activation of the base. The Republicans have a much smaller base, but have been extremely effective at driving their conservative base to the polls with their fear based identity politics tactics. The progressives have been very complacent as many of their big issues have been pushed trough in the past 20 years. They didn't think Trump had a chance, and were correct in many ways, but Trump lucked into an electoral path on a measly 107,330 votes. He got crushed in the popular vote, but won the electoral vote by the slimmest of margins. Progressives have no one to blame but themselves for not working hard enough to keep the base engaged in those swing states. Fortunately, Donald Trump is the tonic this nation needed, and he has activated the progressive minority. The challenge for the Democrats is to capitalize on that activation and make sure those voters get to the polls in the mid-terms and in 2020.

Interesting to compare Trump's tweets about Quebec City where one of his fans killed 6, versus the "attack" on the Louvre that slightly injured 1. But what President Bannon wants, President Bannon gets.
Louvre response...
Quebec City response...

I suppose this is all like the massive following that Sanders got while he was a viable candidate? Droves of young people getting out to vote and involve themselves in politics for the first time?
Yeah, we all know how that went.
Sustainable action that will make a lasting difference takes more than a march or a meeting. People care more now, sure. But will they care as much 6 months down the road when the headlines aren't as sensational anymore?

As mentioned before, I stayed out of these threads right after the election half because I was genuinely awe struck by the result and half because I usually prefer to read others opinions instead of injecting mine all the time.
But one of the biggest takeaways I had personally from the campaign was the reminder (as its certainly been true for a while now) that the republican party is streets ahead when it comes to staying on message. Regardless of how absurd most of it was, their ability to stick with crooked Hilary, emails, Benghazi, etc was what really helped them win. Compare that to the Clinton campaign that really had no message aside from just trying to let Trump embarrass himself enough they would win by default. Clinton had better positions, just no slick marketing way of presenting it.
I think it was a poor campaign by Clinton. And considering the razor thin margin of victory, it seems that would have been enough to make a difference. I do think there's lots wrong with things like gerrymandering, making it harder for people to vote, etc, but the campaigning was just so much better on the right. Which is insane considering just how bat-sh%t crazy most of what they said was.

Predictably Kellyanne blames everyone else for her attempted propaganda that badly backfired. Chris Matthews really just needs to call her a lying sack of #### the next time he has her on (why does he keep having her on again?).

Now this is how you fund raise. The ACLU created this page, which redirects to it's page. Probably should have worked in a Frederick Douglass reference but this will work just fine.

I'm not being defensive! You're the one who's being defensive! Why is always the other person who's being defensive? Have you ever asked yourself that? Why don't you ask yourself that?

That's the possible silver lining. The USA needs to go down a dark road in order to wake up. There's a massive risk in doing so, but hopefully (a fool's hope) we come out of this.
