I don't expect Trump to actually stop making stupid decisions, but I think at some point he'll probably try avoiding looking like a fool while he does it.
Yep, definitely lots of precedent there. Or as he would say - president.
Pence's anti-lbgtq history is well documented. I thought that this was one area that Trump was actually on the right side of during the election cycle though.
The fact that this is being talked about just shows me again that Trump is being played like a fiddle by the people within his administration.
Outlawing gay rights will also be overruled by the judicial branch.
I bet this isn't true. If it allows a business to refuse to serve a LGBTQA wedding on a religious basis, well, that is actually within the realm of reasonability.
An executive order signed shortly will probably result in a hearing in front of the Supreme Court well before Trump can do anything to get his candidates where he wants them.
At least I would hope so.
On the bright side, I hope they do all their stupid crap now so the US has time to fight back with the people they have in place now on the judicial level, and not 2 years from now when Trump has his loonies entrenched all over.
America needs some Woody Guthrie in the worst way right now.
Interesting bit on Woody Guthrie on Wikipedia...
In 2016, a researcher discovered Guthrie's critiques of Fred Trump (father of developer and president Donald Trump), at the archives of the Woody Guthrie Center in Oklahoma.
Guthrie chronicled his disgust with Trump as a landlord, penning lyrics which accused him of stirring up racial hate "in the bloodpot of human hearts"

Interesting you brought that name up. He wrote a song about Trump's dad years ago.
Quote:
Old Man Trump
Words by Woody Guthrie, Music by Ryan Harvey
I suppose that Old Man Trump knows just how much racial hate
He stirred up in that bloodpot of human hearts
When he drawed that color line
Here at his Beach Haven family project
Beach Haven ain't my home!
No, I just can't pay this rent!
My money's down the drain,
And my soul is badly bent!
Beach Haven is Trump’s Tower
Where no black folks come to roam,
No, no, Old Man Trump!
Old Beach Haven ain't my home!
I'm calling out my welcome to you and your man both
Welcoming you here to Beach Haven
To love in any way you please and to have some kind of a decent place
To have your kids raised up in.
Beach Haven ain't my home!

At this point I think the best case scenario is for the US to descend as quickly as possible, ie, for the worst executive orders to come tumbling from the white house as fast as they can.
I think erosion is more dangerous than explosion when it comes to this stuff.

Scalia was already one of the most conservative justices, so replacing him with someone similar won't change the balance of power.
The problem will be if there becomes another vacancy during the next four years.
The odd thing about judges though is they tend to react badly to naked displays of power though, I can see a few of the right wing judges tending to the left just to back Trump off.
We definitely need a new Woody Guthrie. Or a new Gil Scott-Heron. "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" is relevant to the current situation, but with all the unbelievable bull#### that has happened in such a short time I keep thinking "Dot Dot Ditty Dot Dot Dash" sums things up so well.
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
The Democrats are delaying my cabinet picks for purely political reasons. They have nothing going but to obstruct. Now have an Obama A.G.

This why I think the nazism comparisons are overblown. The judiciary has substantial powers. If he stars questioning the legitimacy of the court or tries to expand the court to add justices or use his emergency powers to add justices then I think the comparisons may be apt but until then the mechanisms to prevent a facist take over are still in place
