I would have to disagree here. We live and breathe the Flames which makes the NHL better. Its nice Canada won gold in Vancouver and Sochi. CP would lose its collective minds if the Flames won the Cup.

Why is it so hard for the NHL to get some good musical acts to play their events? I don't think I've seen a good performance yet at the all star games, outdoor games or award shows. Come on NHL! You can do better.

The same reason any event in the world has trouble getting major acts. It's not hard to book them but it's one of the largest costs when putting together an event. You need to be drawing huge profits to justify even decent acts and weekend all star event isn't doing that.

Have you ever seen those lists of what acts charge for performances? They typically release the has beens and mediocre acts around the internet and the A list acts are often multiples of three to four times higher than the $200k-$600k acts.

The NHL isn't going to be spending $1mil+ for a couple songs during the intermission, lol.

Sure, if you've got a winning team, then I agree. But the league has watered down the product to the point where the odds of winning are lower than ever and the on-ice entertainment is lacklustre on many nights.

The Olympics are a best on best tournament in a brief 3-week window where the players go hard each and every shift. The typical NHL game simply can't compete with it.

Still love my Flames though.

They're just trying a bit harder. But the tone might be set for a bit more effort for this one. We can only hope...

Just to give some examples of what the NHL was looking at...
Snoop Dog is $75k, that's reasonable for a weekend like this. I don't know what people consider good acts for an intermission performance but just to give you an idea of "major" acts that you may think should be tossed in there to make the event more legit:

Dave Matthews Band, Justin Timberlake, Justin Beiber, Madonna, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi just to name a few are all listed as $1mil+. And I suspect even if they spent that money there's some names on that list that would have many on CP groaning and making the exact same "Couldn't they splurge for a decent, relevant act" comments.

The act booking game is a lot different than I suspect some think it is. You don't get to just phone up U2 or Bruce Springsteen on a weekend event that probably only turns a couple million in profit, lol.
