Gaudreau landeskog Tkachuk all lw. Cant give up a top 4dplus for a lw and force someone to play offwing.

That's a really good point.

I would much rather add an RW and Colorado doesn't look like a good trading partner in that respect.

Value wise it's not terrible but that absolutely kills this team's blueline to add another left shooting left winger. Makes the team worse.

Duchene is a left handed shot, but has played lots on the right side.
I'd love Dutchy here, but don't think it's happening.

Only way it happens is if flames put Brodie or Hamilton in the deal. That would be an awful idea. Would love Duchene on the flames, but we can't give up the pieces to make it happen.

Not really the same. Everybody knew that Chia needed a d-man now to start climbing the standings. Other teams did not bend or help him out. The Av's could easily say they are going to start a new rebuild and be patient.

Hypothetically, if Flames get Alzner in July, would you guys do Brodie for Landeskog?

He's a LW, but IIRC from HF, he played a lot on RW.

Gio - Hamilton
Alzner - Wideman

Wideman in the top 4 is not ideal, but he's that THAT BAD. But in an ideal world one of Andersson/OK takes that spot. Or we could go the FA route and pick up cheap offensive d-man.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Landeskog
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Bennett - Brouwer

Not saying I would do it, losing Brodie would suck, but it is an interesting idean.

There is no way I want Wideman on the team next year especially in the top 4...

I would like Landeskog though..

Ferland+1st 2017+Kylington/Andersson+Bouma (cap dump) for Landeskog

Hopefully Vegas picks up Stajan..

Sign Alzner and Bishop

Gaudreau-Monahan-Landeskog
Bennett-Backlund-Frolik
Tkachuk-Jankowski-Brouwer
Shinkaruk-Cheap Veteran FO Specialist-Hathaway
Hamilton

Giordano-Hamilton
Brodie-Alzner
Kulak-Engelland ($<1.5)
Farm Guy

Bishop
Rittich

Wideman? WTF?

In no world do the Flames ever re-sign Wideman. Not a chance. The are at least four better options for the #4D slot out there.

Wideman in the top four.....NEXT YEAR? Good lord. Ironically, your mistyped statement was actually quite correct. He is that THAT bad.

At $5 million, yes, at less than a million, no.

I know that hating Wideman is what all cool kids are doing, but he has been decent-ish this year.

But, like I said, i would be better to see one of our prospects take that spot.

He is making 5.5 mil and averaginh about 50 points over the last 3 years on a downward trend. I like him and think he can benefit from a scenery change but reports were that Sakic wants Brandon Carlo as the main piece for him from Boston.

I think that package beats Carlo easily.

Wideman has not been "decent-ish" this year.

I don't understand this theory.

Does someone all of a sudden become a better player when they make less money?

Will the coach play him less when he's making less money?

Wideman at any price is a bad idea next year.

Yes, he has. Is he worth his contract? Hell no. Is he a top 4 d-man? Again, hell no.

But, most of the time, he played like an actual NHL d-man. Brodie has been much worse.

No, but it's about expectations. A guy making $5M needs to show a hell of a lot more than a guy making just over league minimum.

So you just said "Is he a top four D-man? Hell no" yet you were the one that had him in our top four next year that started this whole debate. You're claiming that he won't be expected to be good anymore if his contract is way cheaper, but that's moot. We need a strong top four which means acquiring a another top four defender, not paying someone who can't do it less money and then being okay with it.

We're trying to become a contender here, not an okay team.

So should we change our rebuild motto to "lowered expectations"?

I'm also of the opinion Wideman has been one of our more steady and consistent Dmen. However I wouldn't bring him back because there's a lot changes that's needed to this team. I would rather sign Alzner and push Brodie to the right side. For the bottom pairing I would part with Engelland and leave it open for a prospect and PTO, because I think next year the Flames need to have some spots available for the best working prospect, which creates a competitive camp and starts the season off right.

I attribute these slow starts to camps in which players knew who was pencilled in for the most part.

So steady and consistent he had a seat in the pressbox at the beginning of the year, AGAIN.

jeeeeeeeee sus we have got to move on from some of these players who have been here the whole time the team was circling the toilet bowl.

I wouldn't bring wideman back for league minimum and frankly if the cap implications weren't so dire on the team, I'd ask him to go home and collect his paycheques and play Wotherspoon in his place.
